People over the age of 6 using the word poo. It just makes me cringe - it's everywhere.....the word poo.

Why not use the words plop plop instead?;)

Think someone has already mentioned the whole starting sentences with the word "so" over and over.

Using words whilst leaving off the "ly" at the end. "It went really bad" etc

"Can I get" in shops instead of Can I have.

Haven't read every post so this might be a repeat but 'bae'.... you missed out one letter, it is still one syllable so it's not any shorter verbally, good lord!

Also the American 'burglarize'... as in 'the house was burglarized' No it wasn't, it was burgled!!

    Happy Friday, everyone!
I'm a little late in coming to the party but would like to add my list of bugbears:
    • horrid (it's just got an awful sound to it)
    • mindful (instead of considerate - what's wrong with good old consideration?)
    • bro/ blud
    • fanks
    • awesome
    • "pushing the boundaries"
    • "I'll circle back to you" (and making a circle motion with an index finger....)
    • definately
    • job's a good 'un
coach instead of carriage for a train (coaches are buses in my opinion and in both cases I am a passenger, not a customer. A customer has a choice, a passenger generally doesn't!!)
    • "do you get me?"
    • and my husband's bugbear is "believe you me".

Will now read the last 7 pages of this thread!

    Wishing all a nice weekend

Generally speaking, (at least in this neck of the woods), " carriage "tends to be reserved for the punters. We tend to refer to a coach of a multiple unit as a " car" (77car or whatever). Unless it's loco hauled coaching stock, then it's, um, "coach".
Thinking about it, coach/carriage probably refers to a seated non-engined discrete portion of the train, whereas " car" indicates a powered one.

For that example, I'd say it's that they haven't thought through what they wish to say and use basically while thinking of the next bit they want to say and/or they feel awkward and can't get out what they want to say so add in basically a lot just to be saying something.

Some people probably do overuse it all the time, others probably just overuse it in times like that (which is unfortunate for you as you are the one who gets to hear it).

Not sure why but it winds my insides up something chronic......so much so that I have to find another station to listen to.

When people start nearly every sentence with the word 'so'.
Using the word 'like' every other word.
Using the word 'loose' when they mean 'lose'.
    'Draw' instead of 'drawer'.
    'Or' instead of 'aw'.
Saying 'I can do that' when they mean 'I can't do that.'
