One way I was told was to put down cut-up carpet grippers in the flower beds,( although this does sound a bit harsh!) or perhaps not as bad , someone recommended holly leaves scattered around.
Either way I haven't tried but they don't sound the most kind deterrent available. How about getting a bigger tougher cat???

Not only would it be extremely cruel it would be illegal as well. Whoever suggested this to you needs their head read.

    hiya
well i have cured my cat problem for about £12 i got some of them anti tresspass spikes and put them ontop of my fences where the cats gain access to my garden on a regular basis.
and i am amazed at the overnight sucess. no more cat !!!! and no more dogs running out barking there heads of chasing cats out the garden. annoying the neighbours.
basically the fact that the dogs have stopped barking when i let them out at night and in the morning shows that the cats arent comming in anymore.
i havent done the whole fence just 4 fence panels that the cats were using as regular access in and out of the garden.
and i was suprised at how they dont really stand out that much. the spike we sold in 4 mtr packs and said you could split them into 3s so giving you 12 mtrs of coverage my only gripe was that it wasnt easy using a big carving knife to split them up. i dont personnely belive they are designed to be split up.

    Hi
Not sure if putting cut up carpet grippers is actually illegal...must try that one day for fun and see what happens.
Anyway - I tried Silent Roar Pellets, after the first present appeared on my newly rotovated just built raised beds, coupled with a few stray holly leaves and no sh*t [literally] it worked. Plus as they rot down, they release nitrogen [thus helping the brocolli and brassicas grow].
    Definitely recommend it

we tried practically everything mentioned on this thread and couldnt get rid of them so a couple of months ago we covered the whole of our front garden with gravel (and some flags in middle) and it has really worked for us we have only cleaned up poo about three times!:j (thrown it back to the cats own garden so they might smell it and do it in their own!:D )
it does look like a great big litter tray but they must know the difference cos theyve gone elsewhere!!! it cost us about £70 to do it but it has been worth it as we hardly have to do anything to the garden these days!

And this site (that I daren't post about!;)) says they don't like to see they're own reflections Queenie.

Seems they don't like water much

Ours love to sit by the pond, which has a waterfall and they don't mind mirrors/their reflection at all. Could just be our cats being different but I don't think so.

Might be a bit mean but could you use this to keep kitty away from that area?

Stare at them, hiss and chase them away whenever you see them. You need to let them know you own this bit of turf as a domiant house cat would.
