I have two little kittens (really cats now). They are no help at all! The bloody slugs have still managed to eat through the base of my courgette plants- great defending and hunting their guys! Plus I caught the little girl scratting in my pot of aliums and weeing on them. She's useless!

Its not the chemical spray that the cats hate its the gravel.
Forget all the expensive sprays etc etc just put 2 inches of gravel down and they will go and cr*p somewhere else
really ive just recently put in a gravel path around a very old apple tree and guess what the cats have used it as a litter tray. i used white pepper which works a treat on the gravel but the cats just !!!! everywhere else. we have 2 dogs and dont see a single cat in the garden during the day. but at night they must all meet up and !!!! in the garden.
might leave the back door open and lets the dogs out in the garden all night long.
might have to try the silent roar pellets but i am worried about my dogs reaction especially as one is a rhodesian ridgeback and used to be used to trap lions.
im very tempted to use car antifreeze one night but dont want to hurt or injure the cats. but if they keep crapping in the garden they might just become dead cats walking lol0 -
Our 2 cats are just as useless, they do chase off birds (obviously), but other pests they don't tend to bother with, plus they use our garden as their toilet which is killing a lot of our young plants we have planted, plus the slugs are getting the rest, so we are not off to a very good start in the garden this year.0

My lazy cat brings the biggest slugs into the lounge and drops them at your feet as a present!
He then sits there pleased as punch oblivious to everyone else "yeucking" around trying to find something to pick the thing up with for removal.
Meanwhile his tongue is going nine to the dozen around his chops licking off the slime - gross! Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I totally agree with you , Its very sensible what you are saying.I have been saying this to my grumpy father in law who complains about cat poos in his garden- just get a cat I tell him.I NEVER get cats in my garden ( one of my cats is the local godfather cat and rules the street so no cat dares enter ). I also never have mice- nor do my neighbours who my cat likes.
However they are rubbish with birds and I have several bird nests in the garden as my cats like birds and the birds know it !0 -
My cat doesn't catch slugs or any other pests and also likes to go in our garden. Luckily he has a favoured spot under a tree which I have given to him, I clear it out regularly and put sand/used compost in it to make it attractive to him and he tends to leave most other things alone, though I did catch him having a rummage in one of my planters the other day. He used to be the complete opposite but he's 14 now and can't be bothered to venture outside the garden these days by the looks of it. Thankfully he's still a belligerent little sod and other cats stay out!0

My parents used to have a large area in the garden with pebbles and they found a few rubber toy snakes thrown on there and moved every few days to new spots worked a treat at keeping cats away.0

Holly leaves!
Next door's cat managed to squeeze through my barrier of hawthorn branches and bramble stems to the places where I'd planted new annuals. I have an overgrown holly tree, so I took a few branches down, stripped the leaves and put them round the new plants.
Oooh, he doesn't like it. He doesn't like it at all.
