I know this may seem a little odd....but i found this out by accident....
we must be the only house in the area that doesnt have a cat...but we get plenty of visits...
whilst out gardening one day i was moving my seedlings from those shallow trays into troughs...and left a tray out overnight..by the following morning it had been turned into a litter tray -if you know what i mean...eughhh
i thought it was worth a try so put some fresh compost in it(as cats are drawn to freshly dug earth-hence the regular visits to your garden) and put it at the foot of the garden under a tree..where i know the little blighters come through....and low and behold that has now become their very own little visitor attraction...
ok i object to emptying the thing every week..but it sure beats my hubby going blue in the face every time he gets the lawn mower out ...LOL
    its worth a try...

I've found that grated green soap works! I have no idea why, but green seems to be the colour! (They ignored peach colour!!) You can pick up cheap green soap in the pound shops, too! (no need to spend a fortune on fancy soap!) It works in my garden!
    I wish I was a glow worm, a glow worm's never glum
Cos how can you be gloomy, when the sun shines out your bum? :D

I do love cats having had them in the past but understand what a pest they are. I use the same things I use for snails and slugs. Either mashed up shells to sharp for their feet or pebbles. Also cats hate pepper and chillies so if we have chillies we put the seeds on the garden and it does work. If you have any mint in the garden or Rosemary it seems to atract them.

I have a cat of my own who I love.

I recently asked on this site about sonic cat repelllents as there are loads around where i live who use our garden (and others i expect) as their toilet.

The great people on this site suggested I don't bother with a sonic repellent so I took the majority advise..........................

....................and bought a small water gun! £1.99 from wilkinsons.

haven't seen a cat in garden for a week now!
Aim to win in 2013 - a holiday somewhere nice, New York break, treats for family & friends & some cash would be lovely!!!

    Hello

Some time ago I asked for hints to stop this facility.

I eventually tried using Jeyes Fluid SPRAY. Firstly, when we put the weed repressent membrane down I sprayed that and then when the pebbles went on top I sprayed them as well. So far the pebbles have remained clear.

    Thought I would share this.

    Regards
    gertie:T :T :T

Its not the chemical spray that the cats hate its the gravel.
Forget all the expensive sprays etc etc just put 2 inches of gravel down and they will go and cr*p somewhere else

Having had a read of some of the more vitriolic anti-cat gardeners I thought might throw in my 2 penneth and give some reasons why my cat is a great help.

    1) Since I put out my seedlings in my growbags on the deck , my cat (Mr Johnson) has taken to sleeping close by, and thus deterring any pesky birds from trying to take the plants which he protects

    2) He keeps all other cats out of "his" garden

    3) Being a clean and hygienic old soul he wont go toilet in "his" own garden and likes to go elsewhere

So I guess the moral of the story for any cat hating gardeners is the best anti-cat weapon is a.................CAT!

    Peace :p

    I prefer Landmines,

Its a bit noisy for a few nights....but you don't get any repeat offenders and it turns the soil over quite nicely :D

In agreement with you there! I've two cats and they even have been know to eat any bugs that may pass them also!! I'm lucky as I have two empty house next to me, and they use that as their litterbox, so no problems.

I'm in forces housing and they won't be moving anyone in either so they can stay happy:T
    it costs nothing to smile:D
