Neighbours cats use my garden as their toilet. Any tips, please how to deter them. I have just applied bark on the borders and they do smell, but that does not stop them from wandering there. Thanks
  • You can get a device that has a sensor on it and when the cat passes it gets a squirt of water.Cats hate water. Not sure where you would purchase one though.

Orange peel and or citronella and or oil of orange.
sprinkle where you don't want the cats to go and it works.
my mum has loads of cats and they don't go upstairs coz she sprayed her stari carpet with oil of orange!

  • I have tried all sorts of things from plastic bottles part filled with water to old CD's hung on a string (they are aware of the movement apparently), only a short term success though. My father-in-law swears by moth balls ,I am in process of trying it at moment and touch wood they have not been and done so far, they need to be replaced if there has been quite a lot of rain though, but they are cheap to buy for a box anyway. Good Luck, I am in sympathy with you, it is so annoying!!! (My hubby's solution would be a big gun, but I am not that cruel, I don't like them in my garden but wouldn't kill them - just feel like it sometimes).

I just bought some wall spikes, only made of plastic but on long strips so you can screw them onto fences. Seems to be working ok. Got them from screwfix.

Have heard that lion dung is very good. Scares them off because it smells of other, bigger cats. You need to use plastic gloves to put it down or it will smell of you & not the lions apparently....but then you'd probably want to anyway wouldn't you?! You can buy stuff called Silent Roar from crocus.

We`re over run with cats in our garden too.I have a dog but he`s not out there 24hrs so they still come in and dig up plants plus use it as a toilet and wreck all shed roofs with scratching the felt.
What we`re going to do this year is put grease or anti vandal paint all along the fences, wall and shed roof so hopefully the cats will trail it into their own homes and their owners will have to start shelling out for replacing carpets etc like we keep having to keep paying out year after year.
Problem round our area is that people don`t just get 1 cat, they get 3 or 4!
