I have gone onto the April fix now, only on jan 18 a week which at the time was cheaper than my march 16 fix. This brings down my acual saving down from the big 4 switch estimate by another £58, so as i have said my cutomer service from SP has been good so far( long may it do so)my DD is down to £53 and in credit and i have been as low as £30 over the summer. No problem with any internal swop's or refunds, so after all the working out's i am quite ready to leave it at that for the time being.Phew!

I've done much the same as elle may - switched to Jan 18 for about a week and then switched to April 17 fix. I'm saving about £3 a month, so not a vast amount, but any little helps.

I've not had any problems with Scottish Power, so I'm one of the lucky ones, but I haven't tried to leave them yet! The potential savings by switching to another provider aren't great enough for me to put up with the hassle this time.
  • Im moving to this one after 3 years with npower. I dont mind the leaving fee as I dont expect to change again until the deal is up.

I swear np make their bills up, there are always massive bill reversals just before each quarter, but the amount billed almost always equals whats in my balance.

The switch to SP will save me £32 a month!

if you think np are bad, wait till you go to sp they will do your head in

The £30 each fuel switch fee put me off, might wait for another tariff without it.

maybe in the coming years things may change and they may come back into fashion (2 year fixes)

Don't you remember how expensive 2 and 3 year fixes were when they WERE in fashion? Irrational fear of further rises drove lemmings onto them.

Anyway, I prefer the Help Beat Cancer because it's exit penalty free. Besides, if SP May 2017 Fix is obscenely cheap, I can just switch to it.
  • Well, I was waiting for this Scottish Power tariff after their delay, but I think I will go ahead with my switch to E.On v19.

9.66pence per KWH and 16.422 standing charge.

It works out as £50 cheaper plus £17 cashback and the possibility of tesco reward points.

My feeling is that the exit fees will become the norm from now. I hope I'm wrong, though.

I can't think of any major issues I've had with SP and the competition has only been a bit cheaper ie £30 in recent months but it's jumped to around £70 now. So I either wait until next month and hope they bring out a better tariff or switch to npower (not the cheapest but I don't like the what I'm reading about extra energy and first utility)

I'm guessing that npower lets you switch tariffs without penalty like SP?

The April one is already nearly £70 cheaper here.

Yes it has exit fees, but it's the only one at the moment.

Have a look at the crude oil price. If it's actually bottomed and is bouncing back, what tariff can you get in May 2017? Two year fix counters the scenario where energy prices are going back up.

Harken back to the days of 3.5p per kWh for gas, and 4p or more for a long fix. The Help Beat Cancer deal is not bad at all.

Penalty free allows the possibility that prices plunge even more, and there are even better deals down the road. Yes, I am paying more for that freedom.

I'm aware that prices can rise, though this house spent several years on a long fix missing much of the worst of it before.

But now. Here the April 2017 tariff will have been about £90 cheaper by the time it ends, and then less gas use for the summer. So it's a gamble that prices of a one year fix won't have risen 20% to 25% by next winter ...

I am not stuck on Help Beat Cancer for two years.
    I can switch any time.
