After bucking the trend in January of releasing a new one year fix tariff, Scottish Power have finally released their new April 2017 (do not know why the jumped to April) Online Fixed Price tariff.

For me, it is still more expensive than alternatives but worth considering if they continue the cheaper tariff trend month on month.

Remember, for existing scottishpower customers, you do not need wait till the end of your existing 1 year fix. You can hop to this tariff without any issue.

  • I Just noticed that this new tariff has switching penalties of £30 per fuel. So it looks like a change in policy regarding these tariffs.

After a quick call I have clarified that the fees apply to switching to another provider but no fees apply when switching to another Scottish power tariff.

Thanks Cashstrapped I just changed tariffs with them. I not long changed tariff with SP but this one is a bit cheaper.
SP supposed to let you know if there is a cheaper tariff but not once have they let me know as I only find out if I check these Energy posts on here.
So thanks to anyone that takes the time to alert people of cheaper tariffs

I changed tariff to cancer 2018 online which was cheaper than my march 16 fix Now the April 17 is cheaper for me, but should i go for the longer fix or change to the 1yr. Will prices keep going down?.

I too noticed there is a exit fee for changing supplier. But as Cashstapped says will they keep on month by month cheaper tariff's.I too have cheaper alternatives, and unlike other people SP has been ok for me so don't want to rock the boat with other customer service. Olso have the warm discount to take into consideration. The new BG is slighter cheaper but do i stick or bust.

    Decision's, Decisions.
  • Prices are not likely to go up any time soon, I would get on the cheapest tariff available now.

I was about to switch away, but for the £51 estimated annual difference, I might cancel and stick.

Two year fix is usually more expensive than a one year fix, that's not new.

What the April 2017 Fix has in its favour is timing, as the 16/17 winter is fully covered. Provided you are happy to stick with it to near the end, the exit penalty is irrelevant.

The Help Beat Cancer is a two year fix, but the 17/18 winter is only half covered. The edge it does have is no exit penalty. So, if E.On comes along with a good 2/3 year fix, I can defect any time. I know, it's like I'm with Katrina, but as soon as Angela is free, I'll dump Katrina. :p

If you have no intention of leaving Scottish Power, I would go with the April 2017 Fix. If you end up on standard tariff in May 2017, it's low season, so you have time to wait for a good one. Historically, you would have gone on to another Scottish Power one year fix long before May 2017, anyway.

for me the new SP tariff is top of the pile and the cheapest only by £4 tho lol, sadly not cheap enough to move too (with exit fees)

I will await Eon next tariff, hopefully it wont be a total shocker like the V20 was

personally I don't see 2 year fixes are that attractive/worthwhile anymore with prices low, maybe a few years ago when prices were on the rise

maybe in the coming years things may change and they may come back into fashion (2 year fixes)
  • Im moving to this one after 3 years with npower. I dont mind the leaving fee as I dont expect to change again until the deal is up.

I swear np make their bills up, there are always massive bill reversals just before each quarter, but the amount billed almost always equals whats in my balance.

The switch to SP will save me £32 a month!
  • I have gone onto the April fix now, only on jan 18 a week which at the time was cheaper than my march 16 fix. This brings down my acual saving down from the big 4 switch estimate by another £58, so as i have said my cutomer service from SP has been good so far( long may it do so)my DD is down to £53 and in credit and i have been as low as £30 over the summer. No problem with any internal swop's or refunds, so after all the working out's i am quite ready to leave it at that for the time being.Phew!
