Hotpoint Drier fire risk

Hi guys
As I'm sure many have heard all over the net and news a recall was issued for Hotpoint dryers and the risk of fire. We found that our dryer was one of the effected units however after contacting Hotpoint / Whirlpool we have had confirmation that the problem is being dealt with and understand there's an awful lot of others with the same issue and of course will take time to deal with.
During a time of desperation we bought the machine from Brighthouse approx 4 yrs ago, we have heard if we contact them regardless of the age the responsibility lies at the feet of the supplier of the Machine, that being brighthouse.
My personal thoughts are that as this issue was not known at the time of sale then it's not something we can contact or claim against Brighthouse. Am I right in thinking this. My wife raised the question, so thought I would post here for advice
Thanks in advance and my apologies if this is posted in the incorrect forum

Is your machine actually faulty or is it just subject to the recall?Hi guys

Anyway, there is a lengthy thread about these dryers on The Consumer Rights board where this point has already been addressed.0 -
I had a letter from them in Feb and registered for a repair, I have now received and email stating DECEMBER at the earliest,
is this fair I feel I do not want to use it as it is kept in a stone shed outside, which is waterproof, but also means I cannot keep an eye on it when in useThanks to all who post comps

Why don't you want to use it? The risk is minimal or else they would recall more quickly.
And if it is in a stone shed then I think you're safe enough.
I think you should wait for them to repair it, and just use it normally until then (but not when you are out of the house). Contacting the shop you bought it from 4 years ago will not speed anything up and will just cost you time and headaches.0 -
How long have you had it? Mine was 7 years old so I bought the £59 replacement. I had been on the list since Nov but stopped using mine at the beginning of Feb when someone was watching theirs and saw smoke, and still ended up with their house burnt down.
There is lots on this on Consumer Rights so have a read. Most people seem to have been offered the replacements, for me I didn't want to wait for months without using it and i felt it was worth it. Problem seems to be with those under a year old, or those bought under these payment schemes eg Brighthouse where they don't actually own it. Read the other forum section

Mine is about 9 years old, and its on the list of those effected. They've said they'll get to us eventually.
Until then I'll continue to use it, but not leave it running at night or when the house is empty.0 -
9 years old? Blimey lucky it's lasted that long! Worth £59 to replace surely?!0

I have one of the affected models and was told by the hotpoint website to register it for a repair. Trouble is I have already repaired it once by fitting a replacement heater element. It is also in pretty poor shape with a few of the screws missing!
I wonder exactly what they would even do with it! Would they bother to repair or just offer a cheap replacement?0 -

Have you registered it? I did so in Nov and got an email end Jan offering me the replacement and an estimated date for the repair. I didn't even look when the estimate was I just ordered as soon as I got the email to open in Feb (another story!) then and there and the next day it was installed. They took the old one away, don't know what they're doing with them. It certainly wasn't inspected in any way before they took it. I'm surprised they've got the stock to offer all these replacement machines tbh!0 -
Try contacting them through Facebook. I did so and got a pretty quick reply - they offered me a repair date for the week after but I ordered the replacement instead.0
