Hotpoint Drier fire risk

Comments

  • I'm waiting for a repair. They acknowledged my email and I'm waiting for a date to fix.
I never use any appliance unattended at night unless burning midnight oil to take advantage of economy 7 (everything then goes on).
I once witnessed an Indiset dishwasher flame at the controls just as we were going out !!!!!
The dryer gets de fluffed after every use,I also have a firealarm in the garage where it is placed.I will wait to see the offer and decide then but a replacement at low price would be nice.Don't worry just be careful.

We have a Hotpoint condenser dryer and registered months ago, October maybe, and ours isn't due to be repaired until June earliest.

There was a link to the official website on one of the emails we received after registering. It gave an update on repair time, but stated if your weren't happy waiting you could opt for a replacement. The link to the replacement offers an 8kg dryer for £100.

I called them to ask if any other options were available, as our machine is a 9kg dryer, and a higher spec that the replacement on offer, but the 8kg model is the only model available to anybody requesting a replacement.

They are building this one model en-masse, primarily to keep costs down i'd assume, but also to ensure they have the capacity to supply everybody that wants one.

If you are continuing to use your existing machine before they 'fix' it, then they recommend cleaning out the filter after every use, which we did anyway.

Have you registered it? I did so in Nov and got an email end Jan offering me the replacement and an estimated date for the repair. I didn't even look when the estimate was I just ordered as soon as I got the email to open in Feb (another story!) then and there and the next day it was installed. They took the old one away, don't know what they're doing with them. It certainly wasn't inspected in any way before they took it. I'm surprised they've got the stock to offer all these replacement machines tbh!
    Thanks.

What model was offered as replacement?
Is everybody offered the same model (I have seen £59 and £99 prices offered), or does it depend on what you already have?

Given the choice I would probably take the replacement as ours is a little long in the tooth now.

LUHG1878, do you know the model number so I can check it out?

My new vented one is TVFM70.

£59 is the vented one, £99 is the condenser.

I have contacted Hotpoint through a facebook message as people seem to have had luck that way. Not heard anything since this morning though.

I'll happily pay the £99 for a replacement model, ours is reaching end of life anyway.

I would like to save both them and us time, but it seems getting hold of them is the real trick at the moment!

The models offered vary, particularly the vented model, depending on when you look on their site, but the prices stay the same.

Usually it is this condenser @ £99

    TDWSF 83B EP

And this was the vented one last time I looked @£59

    TVHM 80C P

The descriptions on the replacement page were frequently inaccurate, in particular stating that the vented model has a drying sensor when it didn't and was actually just a very basic timer model, so check elsewhere for accurate descriptions.

They have had a slightly better 8kg capacity vented model genuinely with a drying sensor on offer on at least a couple of occasions, so its worth checking back on their site.

Also note that the energy class ratings are not equivalent between condenser models and vented ones as condensers are allowed to use a bit more energy to achieve the same rating as a vented one.

Thanks for the info. Vented is no good for us as we have no vent and are in a rented house.

I'll take a look at the condensing one though.
