It seems to be alright. An upgrade on features compared to our Indesit, but it sure is ugly as sin!

9 years old? Blimey lucky it's lasted that long! Worth £59 to replace surely?!

If it is a vented model there's not much to go wrong, although the seals and "bearings" need regular replacement and fluff can build up inside the bottom of the case.

My previous Hotpoint vented dryer was 15 years or more old when I got rid of it.

My current one is 8 years old and still looks new apart from a minor dent and has cost me a total of £12 in repairs (new seals and bearings and a good sweep out.

When they're out of stock of that one they had a "Hotpoint" TDWSF83BEZ which looks very much like a WhirlpoolAZB 8570 with Hotpoint branding. I think the door design looks a little less ugly on that one.

Personally, I don't care! It dries my clothes and it's £59!!!!
  • I received email from Hotpoint advising me that my machine would be modified in August 2016, I did not want to have to wait so checked my receipt to see when I had bought machine, it was April 2015, so telephoned Hotpoint several times with no success at getting a quicker resolution. Looked up their website and emailed customer services and asked could I have a replacement machine without having to pay £59. Couple of days later they phoned me and said new tumble dryer would be delivered within 4 weeks, free of charge, as my faulty machine was less than 12 months old.
I didnt even have to wait 4 weeks, they phoned again the following week and the new machine was delivered the next day. The delivery driver even took away the old machine for me too!

Mine is about 9 years old, and its on the list of those effected. They've said they'll get to us eventually.

Until then I'll continue to use it, but not leave it running at night or when the house is empty.

To me, it would be a no-brainer to take the £99 replacement. After 9 years, the tumble dryer is going to go at some point and the new ones must be more efficient.

We had a £99 replacement yesterday. My husband wasn't taking the risk of waiting any longer, but I was a bit disappointed at paying £99 when ours was only 18 months old. As it is, it has arrived and it is a hugely better model than our one, has a 8kg capacity and dried the clothes in much less time.

    I couldn't be happier!

I have just got a response from Hotpoint on facebook asking for my details, so hopefully I'll get some progress now. In the mean time I have ordered a fire extinguisher, as it seems like something sensible to have in the house either way.

I'm not looking for anything free from hotpoint, our Indesit has been ok for the last 7/8 years. It is even rated a B for energy efficiency and I don't see many newer models beating that. If I get the replacement they offer it will have sensor drying, which has to be much better than a simple timer!

Oh it's broken a few times, and been repaired (under a home-repair policy that covered parts and labour) but I don't think it is 'end of life' yet. You are most likely to break them by i) not cleaning the filters enough and ii) not allowing the cycle to finish and complete the cooling process.

It sounds silly, but the replacement won't fit in with our other appliances that are all silver/grey. Also, / don't know if the replacement will physically fit where I need it to go, since it's larger than our 7kg-load model.

Ours still works great and we'll keep it until it can no longer be repaired. Apparently Hotpoint will be around to service it in May.

Edit - it's actually 7 years old according to Hotpoint.
  • Registered ours with Hotpoint when problem first announced before Christmas heard nothing.

Emailed them again beginning March had phoned call 2 days later from them to arrange engineer visit.

Engineer turned up yesterday to carry out modification took about half hour.
  • To give others a timeline.
    Contacted Whirlpool early Feb 16
    Whirlpool replied 23/02/16
Up date recd today estimating a repair Jan 17 !!!
Took their offer of a new condenser machine for £99, being delivered installed and old dryer taken away on 24/03/16.Their RRP of £299 can be thrashed by searching ebay....some punters are selling their
    replacement machines.
Our machine was only approx 2 years old but I wasn't prepared to wait 9 months with a potential fire risk.
I would also add that the new machine is pug ugly and could upset a few people with nice kitchens.(Ours is in the garage so I don't care).
My original machine effectively cost me £99 for 2 years worth (OK if your machine is a lot older than this) If I had taken out an extended guarantee I would be seriously p*ssed off.As I NEVER take these rip off guarantee's I'm just p*ssed off.
Future white goods...hmm food for thought.
