Any account or reference numbers I have found with regards to the previous loan are of no relevance to either of the account numbers they have given me or come even anywhere near the amount they claim is in them. ??:(Do the account numbers quoted resemble either your complaint reference or the loan account number, even if just in format?
With regard to the account number, I've had a current account with Barclays for thirty years along with an ISA, TESSA etc. The account numbers have never had letters in them. I have a feeling though that Barclays Investments do, up until recently they were a separate entity to the main bank. Also as mentioned earlier it may be a complaint reference and not an actual account at all.
If you want all the information Barclays hold on you, you could do a subject access request for £10. You could then hand this to the DWP as evidence towards no such accounts existing.0 -

Probably because they only get notified of the interest and from that make an assumption of the balance. For some reason PPI claims pay interest at something ridiculous like 8% and given that interest rates are usually under 1% these days, they might assume you have a balance of something like 8+ times your PPI refund! This will almost certainly be the answer.Novembermoon wrote: »Thanks for the information, but the balance they have stated in question is not a small amount, how could this be related at all?0 -
I wouldn't mind if it were an assumption, but I was given an exact balance and it is way more than 8 times my PPI refund, they have stated in the hundreds of thousands region !!!!Probably because they only get notified of the interest and from that make an assumption of the balance. Could someone have left you an inheritance as a child and you haven't been told? I believe that money left to children is held in trust for them.0

They use a multiplier to estimate the interest. Ask them which tax year the match relates to0

That would be the ideal outcome, I would be well chuffed with thatkingfisherblue wrote: »Could someone have left you an inheritance as a child and you haven't been told? I believe that money left to children is held in trust for them.

I wouldn't worry; it's win-win. You've either got loadsamoney in the bank or it's all a big mistake. Either way happiness.0

Did the caller ask for your bank details? It all seems a bit odd to me0
