I just ticked the No box when asked for my National Insurance Number. I've never been issued with one and I have an ISA.

you have never has a national insurance number?

Hmm I wonder if the bank teller was just trying to fob you off because they couldn't easily find it. Do you remember the address you lived at when you had the account? That might be a way to find it. Or if you hunt through your stuff to find an old bank statement.

I used to work for another High Street bank and we could see old dormant accounts on the system and the balance.
I have no idea, but they claim that I have to go through lostaccount website.

Have you at anytime in the last 6 years had a PPI claim paid out against barclays loans or underwritten by barclays?

I have a very good reason for asking this which I will explain if you have.[/QUOTE
Hi, I have had a PPI refund from Barclays regarding a loan within the last 5 years, but why should this have anything to do with this?
    Thanks.

Last week my husband and I were hauled into the job centre on the same thing as you. Compliance officer insisted we had a Barclays account that paid 138 pounds interest during the year 2011/2012. We have never banked with Barclays - ever, but had a PPI payout in my name only the year before that. I should add those years were way before we claimed income support.

The problem arises because the PPI claim pays interest along with your payout and it looks like a huge amount of interest for a small payout. HMRC report this interest to the DWP. The DWP compliance said although the payout was before we claimed benefits he was checking we still didn't have the money in the account. The payout was for 1200 and the interest was as I said 138. Which makes it seems disproportionate to the PPI amount claimed back.

That's your problem and you need to put that in writing to DWP. We didn't have to send anything about the PPi claim as we showed him our bank statements and he could see the money relating to the payout had gone.
Master Apothecary Faranell replied, “I assure you, overseer, the Royal Apothecary Society dearly wishes to make up for the tragic misguidance which ended so many lives. We will cause you no trouble. We seek only to continue our research in peace".

Thanks for the information, but the balance they have stated in question is not a small amount, how could this be related at all?
  • Hi, thanks for the info,
I was told that the accounts were in my name, matching my national insurance number which they quoted back to me and that these amounts were in them. ??
I have tried Noddle but no old accounts show up at all, just my current Lloyds account.

Do the account numbers quoted resemble either your complaint reference or the loan account number, even if just in format?

With regard to the account number, I've had a current account with Barclays for thirty years along with an ISA, TESSA etc. The account numbers have never had letters in them. I have a feeling though that Barclays Investments do, up until recently they were a separate entity to the main bank. Also as mentioned earlier it may be a complaint reference and not an actual account at all.

If you want all the information Barclays hold on you, you could do a subject access request for £10. You could then hand this to the DWP as evidence towards no such accounts existing.

I would have to check the numbers related to the previous loan but even then the loan I had years ago is nowhere even near the amount they have stated I have in these supposed account(s)

Does the reference look anything like that? That is the format for investment accounts.

There will not be surveillance for a data match for undeclared capital. Nor will the DWP have access to user names to identify them on here.
