It is a minefield these days, once you have been through it you learn to get rid of the old car first and use taxis for a few days, once the insurance is out you have to sorn it or you get a fine.
Looks like you might have to ring round the dealers to sell it or auction it, which can get a good price these days without the hassle of tyre kickers.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
No! It must be insured at all times irrespective of where it is unless its SORN.
You misunderstood the way SORN works.
If you SORN then that means it cannot be on a "public" road at all.
I shouldn't have put and.
To clarify what I mean.
Taxed it must be insured, unless it's sorn you need tax and insurance. Sorn it you don't need insurance, unless it's in a public place.
You only need tax if the vehicle is on a road maintainable at public expense.0 -
You can get temporary cover for your old car, although it seemed quite expensive when I looked a little while ago whilst in a similar situation. (I was lucky the car came with a weeks free insurance, so I kept the price of my old car very reasonable and managed to sell it within the week.)
If the difference in a private sale and WBAC or dealer is a lot of money then it'd probably be worth insuring it for a month.0 -
I already asked my insurer, Sheila's wheels if they could insure both temporarily and they said no. I will SORN it, didnt realise cars still need to be insured even if its just sat on the drive. But then I still have the dilemma of what to do when someone wants to test drive it. Gah!
If you sorn it it doesn't need insurance on the drive. Having done that your next problem is you shouldn't be allowing test drives without tax.0 -

No.
You must always insure (and tax) unless it's SORN.
It's so easy!0 -

As it has no insurance, you now need to declare SORN.0

No you cannot, unless you can provide me with an example of where you are thinking of?0 -

When its SORNd you get a refund of the unused tax also. So not only uninsured now but also untaxed when you SORN it.
If you dont SORN it the DVLA will send you a nice letter saying the car was not insured and can you please pay them £80+.
Makes part exchanging an easier option, will you get more for it after paying extra insurance or narrowing it down to buyers than have trade insurance.
You need to be careful that someone test driving it has the correct insurance.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
