    Deep breaths

Some one here is upsetting me. Not only mean, rude and selfish to our guests but also encouraging the kids to think that they should behave in the same way.
    I think....

    Keep deep breathing. :o

And pull the kids up on rude behaviour when it occurs.

    You got this.

The awful waste of that made me wonder.......will the 20C go down in history as the century in which we slaughtered the most people?

    I would think so. :(

    Send the kids to bed.

It always saddens me that people go to war because rich blokes somewhere else have a little tiff.... and then willy wave and send in their troops.

In WW1 and WW2 everybody spouts out about "heroes" and "brave" - fact is, there were no benefits, they were times when you worked/earnt or died on the streets of starvation PLUS - many were conscripted and had no choice whatsoever. They mostly didn't "choose" to go to a War... they were told and sent ... and they went because that's what people did back then... you did what you were told and, at least, you'd get a few pennies and get fed.

Agree. And tell the upsetting person how you feel and why as soon as you have an opportunity to do so out of earshot of the guests.

The first half of the 20C was very bad in that respect but the second half was a lot better. With everything that's going on ATM, who knows how the 21C is going to turn out????

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

I'm not so sure it was a lot better.

Korean War, Suez, Falklands, and that was just us. :(

    Northern Ireland.

    Vietnam.

    Bosnia.

    Various ones in Africa.

    Have I missed anything out?

It wasn't just the wars, but the attempts at genocide and all the collateral damage too.

All of which were undeniably ghastly for the people involved. But they were comparatively small and local. I don't think they'll turn out to have killed more people as a proportion of world population than previous centuries. WWI and WWII, OTOH, were so much more widespread. :(

Eurovision starts tonight in this house. Watching Melodifestivallen, the Swedish contest live tonight. Thank goodness for Samsung smart TVs. Though heaven knows what the CIA will make of it.

ETA blimey, they're broad minded those Swedes, that song was called 'I don't give a f©ck what they say"

Well that was jolly good. 12 songs, four really good. The two strongest were first and second, either strong enough to win Eurovision with the wind in the right direction. We've also seen the recap for the Norwegian contest, none of which are as good.
