Pastures, do you have Freeview in the TV, or do you use a Freeview box?

If the latter, you could try a 'soft re-install'. On my box, that's achieved by pressing and holding the on-off button on the box for 8 seconds. It then re-starts itself, hopefully cleared of the problem. You won't lose any settings.

Otherwise, the troubleshooting section in the manual may have some advice under " no picture or sound".

I'm only getting a few channels at the moment, because my roof aerial seems to have gone kaput. The channels I am getting are only working because the room aerial lead is an old one and so isn't as well insulated as more recent ones, so the lead itself is acting as an indoor aerial, but only upstairs in my bedroom, not in the living room.

One reason why I spend so much time in bed these days!

I'll have to find an aerial engineer, but am scared of being ripped off. It might simply be that a wire has come loose in the wind or something, but I might get told I need a new and very expensive aerial.

I've been told that modern aerials don't last very long because they're made of aluminium, and so can bend in strong winds very easily.
The one I've got was already on the house when I bought it, and that was thirty years ago!

Four years is good! They don't seem to last long.

You might find it keeps throwing wobblies from now on, though. :(

Regarding getting a new roof aerial pyxis. Which? in conjunction with local council trading standards teams have rolled out Trusted Trader schemes, where you can find someone who will do the job well and not rip you off. It may be worth contacting them. I put aerial in the first box and my town in the second, and had loads to choose from. You can read how the public reviews them too.

    Website is trustedtraders.which.co.uk

After reading the articles about burnt food and thinking it didn't really apply to me, I managed to virtually anihilate my potato wedges today. No more tatties in the house, so we ate them.

My understanding is that somewhere in the small print it says that you have to eat huge amounts of burnt stuff for it to make a difference. So my love affair with slightly charcoaled roasties can continue. Phew! Fortunately I like my toast Stranglers style.

Vegetarian haggis is also very nice, funnily, yet it has just as many calories, which is a lot!

Ooh yes - although you'd better get to the butchers quick if you want to eat it on the right day ;)
