    Leverage. :)

And the help of a passing stranger the second time....:o

Umm, the bike weighs 300Kg, but roughly half is taken by the wheels and the other half is taken by Hamish. Plus, if the heavy bits like the engine are low down (when the bike is vertical), it may be more like 200kg on the wheels and 100kg by Hamish. Still, that's more than I could lift.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

These are subjective, family home -and- good road.

Instead, look for "the 2nd cheapest house within the defined area", ignoring anything odd such as auctions, mobile homes, retirement flats and SO.

To be measurable you have to come up with a set of items others can check/compare with .... not what you think's a nice house/road :)

Compare "the absolute bottom of the market for type XYZ"

Second cheapest detached house in St Albans with at least 4 beds is £570k. It's a bungalow in need of refurb. Next cheapest is £575k.

In my area its £950k (ignoring the grade 2 listed terraced cottage that the EA call detached). If you widen my area to include the whole WD6 (<---- will delete later) postcode, the second cheapest is £875k.

I'm a pauper, in GDB land the second cheapest detached with 4 or more beds is £1.65m!

Will delete if you think this identifies you.

My area's cheap as chips :)
Talk to anybody within 10-20 miles and they'd say "oooh, expensive!" but that's just because people like to know the price of the nicest places and judge the whole area on those desirable properties that makes the most news inches.

In my area, 2nd cheapest is £500k.
Most expensive is £2million. 2nd most expensive is "only" £1,575,000.

Widening the search to the first part of the postcode gives a 2nd cheapest of £390k.

I've never understood people's obsession with comparing detached houses though - they're quite elitist.... few people ever live in a detached. A semi's as good as one can dream of.

    TERRACED:
In my postcode area, cheapest 4-bed terraced is £300k.
In my "bit", cheapest 4-bed terraced is £429k.

£900k will get you the priciest 4-bed terraced in my "bit".

They're not that elitist, PN... I've got one :D

Think me and a guy in the Santander call centre were flirting with each other just now :o. Spring must be in the air!

Edit: my house is unusual though. Last in a run of semis that have (or had) exactly the same floorplan, mine just happens to be detached - no idea why. Maybe the builder lived in it when it wad first built?

The problem with a Mary Ann is that she could easily be any combination of Mary, Mary Ann, Mary Anne, Maryann, Maryanne, Ann, Annie.

And that's not even looking at the fact she appears to be a furrener, so could be Marie in some spots :)

Looking back, it's exciting when you trace back and find people in the 1911 Census. Then it's a bit of a joy getting them all back to 1841. Then you're on your own. Parish Records are incomplete (getting better as more are being transcribed and online), but getting back to 1800 from 1840 in itself is an achievement.

Add in the complexity of somebody coming/going in and out of the country, with scant records taken at the time, if at all, then available/not transcribed, or online .... and sometimes you either need to take 2 years out and sit in the records office yourself, or wait 20 years until some other bugg4h's done it :)

... and that's not mentioning furren languages, even the English parish records are often in scrawly Latin and Greek and Latin/Greek mashups done by a variety of uncaring/slack/lazy vicar types.

the Aumonier Mary Ann should be in the protestant church register but she is not so nobody I am in contact with seems to be able to find her link.....considering a well know family because of there skills...where is she in the frame. it has been an enjoyable search for me at least....the Aumoniers it appears come from the area we live now but not sure how that helps the search really with English being my only real tongue well ok I do know some bad really bad Language which can be used on occasions but that has never really helped me at all. Have a good evening nice people regards Dianne

I find that being sweet (but not quite flirting) is usually the best way if you want to find something out.

    Not just in banking, too.

ETA: Been in the Aldi in my town for the first time tonight with a friend. It's very good value and DDs are happy with the pizza bread (although with a Waitrose pizza).

Any what to buy/not buy tips?
