Cheapest detached for sale I can see is 800k and none of the ones under 1 mill would make much of a family home in a good road
(search deleted)
And I know round your way prices are a fair bit higher.

You can still buy stuff with euro?? I thought those things had all been used as toilet paper by German exporters except the EUR100 notes that are being hoarded by drug dealers and people smugglers.0 -
You had funny limiters on that search.

That is all detached houses with the same post code restriction you had. Don't know the roads, but there is a 5 bed detached for £575k
Link won't work for me
Extended semi in wrong bit of nearby road went on for 800k, about 200k overpriced and is now sstc 2 weeks later :eek:I think....0 -

Catchment of Beaumont or Sandringham (about 0.5 mile radius for each) seems to add several hundred k compared to houses in St Albans but not in the catchment areas. Stags not so much, I guess it only appeals to people with DDs only who also want single sex as if you have boys you end up with Townsend for them.....I think....0 -
I can't get RM to play properly tonight, at least quoted links aren't working for me.
I just put in "St Albans" and chose "this area only", minimum 4 bedrooms and "houses". Then, on the results page, chose detached houses.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. We have a level playing field regarding secondary schools. One over subscribed faith school, one under-subscribed (says it all) school and loads of very decent state and private schools out of the area. Consequently the roads get clogged with mums and coaches leaving the area every morning to take kids elsewhere to school.
It does mean that there is no such thing as a catchment area.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Not just in banking, too.
ETA: Been in the Aldi in my town for the first time tonight with a friend. It's very good value and DDs are happy with the pizza bread (although with a Waitrose pizza).
Any what to buy/not buy tips?
Ham. The German air-dried ham is excellent. The smoked salmon is better than Tesco or whatever and cheaper.
Swimming pool chemicals: half the price of specialist shops.
Meat is as 'good' as regular supermarkets. Obvs not a patch on a decent butcher. Veg is crap.
Plonk. Needs some exploration but the cheap champagne is very good value.
Specials in the Middle. Well worth watching. It's quite fun to see what's in this week and I've bought some great exercise gear and cookwear. I got a beer fridge at a nice price too.0 -
Saltaire is beautiful as well, just north of Bradford - Old mill town with a philanthropical mill owner that built lovely cottages. not as lovely as Port Sunlight by me, but worth a visit none the less.
That sound spainful - no idea how you manage to right something that weighs that much either.
Happy Anniversary Gen, no mean achievement:T
I was lucky enough to visit Port Sunlight last year. It's beautiful. Almost tempting to try and move up that way...
It wad so nice I'm hoping to make it back up there at some point for a proper look around (time was limited during my visit).
During that visit one of my friends had a ceiling mirror above the bed in her hotel room  :rotfl:0 -
Aldi...
GOOD:
I like the Pains au chocolat, excellent value (approx £1.30 for 8), DH and my family say that the meats are very good. The more expensive biscuits are very nice. UHT milk is exceptionally cheap. Flavourings such as pickles, spices, peppercorns etc are great value. Cheese not bad and well priced. Household cleaning products good value.
Fruit and veg and specials are hit and miss. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Thanks, to Gen too
I've spent a massive £4 in there tonight (and only actually ended up in there as I'd dumped the car somewhere I could park for free, which happened to be opposite, and said friend was going in the same direction).
Friend bought Pains au Chocolat, some ready meals and some of the own brand cola (didn't ask if it's any good or not, but assume so), plus some other bits.
I bought bread (Warburtons, cheaper than Waitrose), some cakes for dessert tonight (which were really nice), some flavoured pizza bread (which DDs approve of but I didn't eat) and a bottle of orange juice (same as any other, especially when used to water down vodka as tonight).
Total spend: £3.91, so probably saved at least £1 just on that.💙💛 💔0
