I went to my pilates class yesterday and you would have thought that I hadn't been for a year, not a week. A week of total stuffing and couch potatoness has taken its toll. I was useless. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Some chap on the radio was going to make his new year resolution to start going to the gym in February, so he wouldn't be surrounded by the January fly-by nights and looked askance at by the all-year-round regulars. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

You've got to wonder whether the exercise classes will be heaving in January. A spate of deaths of middle aged celebs coupled with a news story saying that 80% of people aged 40-60 either: a) don't exercise enough or b) don't eat right or c) drink too much or d) smoke or e) weight too much and that this will lead to a health crisis. Put those together with the other news that you can no longer get a GP's appointment so better take care of your own health.
I'm not sure that makes as much sense as I'd like as I'm tired and need to go to bed shortly, but hopefully you get the gist of what I'm saying. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I don't think I put any weight on over Xmas. Had some OK food, but didn't have an endless scoffathon. I don't even particularly want/like the few bits and pieces I did pick up. Ran out of crisps though.
Next year: fewer nuts, more crisps.0 -

The funny thing is, that's always been the case, though, hasn't it? (Well, postwar, anyway). I don't think it's a particularly recent development.
The same advice has been given out year after year after year after year, for as long as I can remember. All that changes is which foodstuff is the current bogeyman. When I was at school, it was carbohydrates. Then it became fats. Now it's sugar.
What always amazes me is how many people under 40 smoke, considering how we've known for 30 years what a killer it is.
(By the way, your post made perfect sense!)

I mentioned a few days back that I wasn't sure whether I had Jewish descendants in my family tree. Well the plot thickens. I knew who the daughter of the woman married but not so much about him.
I've now found more old testament names among their children. I'd not looked at the brothers and sisters before but I have some Victorian census info now. So we have a Daniel, Isaac, Sarah, Shadrach, Mesach and Abednego, as well as a Hannah. Not sure whether Jewish or really liked Old Testament names. I have wedding dates, but frustratingly not where.
I suspect that they were nominally Christian, but fascinating nevertheless. The surname is another of those anglicised names that may or may not be.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? My friend has a theory that the number of celebrities exploded in the 60s, so now that the pool is so large and has been increasing over the last 50 years, it is not surprising that there are so many dying in middle age.
A pool of 20 people and one dying in middle age is newsworthy in itself. Increase that pool to 20,000 and you would statistically expect some to go in middle age.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. There is often a tendency to be buried as Jews even if they lived completely irreligious lives (or adopted superficially a christian lifestyle). Where they were buried may be more of a clue.
One clue in wedding dates would be the day of the week, Jewish weddings are never on a Saturday.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
