    The funny thing was that one of them said something like "Looking forward to seeing you later on today", and had been posted first thing that morning, obviously expecting the postcard to reach the destination before she did! Wow!

    I heard a programme on the radio and it was discussing the early postal service. Here in Manchester there were 7 collections a day and the presenter read out a very irate letter to a newspaper complaining that a letter posted earlier that day had not been delivered a few hours later.

    Obviously expectations were greater for the Royal mail in those days.

    I've got an old postcard somewhere, the photo being the wreckage after a train crash at Salisbury on 1st July 1906 - it derailed at 70mph on a curve rated at 30mph smashing into a milk train and a light engine, and killed 28 people.

    Gawd knows why;
    a) someone would think it a suitable subject to print on a postcard, and
    b) someone else would buy it, write on the back, put a stamp on and send it !!!

    Edit - I've just dug it out. They were pretty quick off the mark too, it was postmarked 13th July, so less than a fortnight after the event.
    The message written on it was completely unrelated to the photo, just general chat about when someone would be arriving for a visit.

    2 hours and 40 minutes after UCAS sent youngest's application to his chosen universities, he received a very personalised email from York offering him an interview.
    We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
    Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    He's absolutely over the moon, we know it isn't an offer yet but the senior lecturer said some very nice things about him in his email, done youngest's confidence the world of good.

    That's brilliant news! York's got a cracking reputation. He'll need to see the town, and I hope he'll like it!

    York was his 3rd choice but after the email I think it has buttered him up a bit and he is wavering now for his top choice.

    We really weren't sure if he fitted their standard student profile because of his GCSEs on top of doing a BTEC instead of A levels, so it was a pretty aspirational choice.

    I suppose his upward trajectory over the last 2 years plus his research and his map (as in gaming map) design and development in the summer (his research and map development is completely independent of his college work) did the trick alongside a solid personal statement and what must have been a brilliant reference helped to get such a response in such a short time....they even said he was a exceptional candidate!

    We're still pinching ourselves as it is such a shock to get that response, youngest even cracked a smile or two and there may even have been a tinge of excitement/pride in his voice :rotfl:

    Great news! York is a very good university. What is it he is looking to study? If you don't me asking, you've probably said but I'm rubbish at keeping up :o
