We were looking at a 3 bed semi requiring complete refurb with a 40 foot garden and it looks like it will go for well over the £1m asking price.

You're looking in the wrong place. I bought my 3-bed semi in February without any refurb needed and maybe slightly more than 40' of garden - for £115K.

I over-strained my shoulder and my left arm has been more or less out of action since yesterday. I now have firsthand experience of what lots of people have to cope with on a daily basis. We live in a bilateral world, and lots of things are really hard to do with just one hand. There are gadgets to help, and I would invest in these if this were going to be long term, but how do you butter toast with just one hand for example ?

It is not serious, and it is getting better already, but this has been an Eye opening experience

I tripped on some steps in Barcelona earlier this year. I have damaged a bunch of ligaments and tendons from my elbow up into my shoulder. My recovery should take two years. It is very frustrating. I discover things that I can't do on a regular basis. This week I went to a concert and discovered that I can't lift my arms up high enough to show appreciative applause. I can butter toast thankfully, as that is in my range of movement, but I can't for example, open a jar as I no longer have the strength to do it.

The absolute worst thing though so far is getting out of my car in the pouring rain and trying to spend 5 minutes putting my coat on:(

I hope that yours gets better a lot quicker!

Have you got one of those work-benches with lots of clampy things on them?
    That might work.

What a brilliant idea! I do actually have a Black and Decker workmate. I am not sure it's clean enough to clamp my toast to. Fortunately, I seem to be getting better, but otherwise I'd buy a new one to keep in the kitchen. Clamp bottles in it for opening. Squeeze toothpaste tubes between the jaws.

I fell down a flight of stairs once and tore a bunch of ligaments. I could feel a slight ache in that ankle ten years later!
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The easiest thing to do in toast buttering terms, is to use a corner on the kitchen worksurface, clean it thoroughly, put a piece of kitchen roll on it, put toast onto kitchen roll and into the corner, and use that 90 degree angle to hold your toast in place.

If you don't have a 90 degree angle in your kitchen because it is full of islands and other such stuff, you are too posh and the butler should do your buttering.

I have to do a weird lopsided sort of applause now...and clap in my lap as my left shoulder won't extend high enough or over enough to meet my right one.

My car boot is also a no entry zone, I can open it but I am beggered with trying to shut the blooming thing again. Brushing my hair I either have to slop my head completely to the left (not the best idea as my neck then gets stuck) or try to do this weird across my face brushing with my right hand.

I can't reach either arm up fully but the right has more movement than the left....until that decides it wants to play silly beggers too, something which happens fairly regularly and causes much hilarity amongst the boys as I get stuck with my arm at a weird angle and usually at a time which causes the most embarrassment :o
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Ah yes, hair. I can brush mine, but drying it is a different matter.

    r!

    Get someone to
    A) scrub it for you or
    B) cover it with cling film or foil or

C)Train the dog to put his paw on the toast while you butter it. :D

Or for around £19 buy a toy one.........(nice and clean!)
