I think the family didn't want media attention, so the internet's been cleaned out to protect them. The photo I saw was an anonymised one like you'd expect in a medical journal. The main scientific article about them is here, but if there's a photo, it wouldn't be accessible.
They take a chemical every day and their skin's pink. Weirdly, it makes their urine come out blue. As they live well into their 80s neither the condition nor the treatment seems to be harmful. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
What have I missed, please? :hello:Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Ah Lydia, you have been very much missed.
We have lost an antipodean stalwart, and gained an alternative home. PN's family tree has yielded further fruit and the Olympics have been discussed. I am sure a more eloquent poster will give a more thorough summary. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Thank you, zag, both for the welcome back and for the update. Is our antipodean friend all right? Do we know what happened to him?
Nothing life-changing has happened here. Happenings of minor note-worthiness include:
My dad had a wonderful weekend-long bash for his 90th birthday. :bdaycake:
One of my closest (in the emotional sense) long-distance (in the geographical sense) friends has breast cancer.
I went on a support day for people widowed under the age of 50 and accepted an invitation to become one of their "befrienders" (although the training weekend is not until next Feb).
I had my best ever crop of GCSE results. :jDo you know anyone who's bereaved? Who has Hive from British Gas?
I seem to recall someone on here does.Lydia?I thought Lydia had solar panels? Maybe she has both.
I have solar PV panels.
I also have tado.
I prefer it to Hive because I don't have to think about it or use my phone to tell it what to do. My phone automatically tells it where I am and it turns the heating on when I am at home and off again when I go out. This is good for me because I do not have the self-discipline to remember to turn the heating on and off and my hours of being at home and out are quite irregular. YMMV.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Err... would it be rude of me to ask for help so soon after reappearing???
This is where I admit that it was when I thought "Oh, one of the NP is bound to know that" that I suddenly realised how much I missed you all, and how much I didn't want to lose you forever.
:o:o
My dad had about 100 or so guests at his party, many of whom took photos. If possible, I'd like to set up some kind of online album where anyone to whom I send a password can upload their own photos of the event, and download those that other guests have shared. I am having difficulty finding out which is the best site to use for this. Can any of the NP help me please?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? We have missed you, not sure what you have missed.
Can you have an invite only facebook group to do what you want with the photos?I think....0 -
The big news was Mr G. He was upset about the EU vote and was also having health worries (most importantly these proved groundless) and a troll used his less than diplomatic posting on the lack of an eu exit plan to get him banned.
The rest of us were pretty unimpressed at mse as a lot of the sites value is the user generated content but clearly they couldn't be bothered to have enough resource to look into the details and instead allowed the troll to score their petty victory at the expense of a valued contributor.I think....0 -

Possibly. Not sure how many of the guests would be on FB. Many of them are a similar age to him, and while I know many oldies are very tech-savvy, he's not on FB, and I suspect many of his friends aren't either. But thank you. It's a good fallback suggestion if nobody thinks of anything that doesn't rely on people belonging to something.Do you know anyone who's bereaved?
