Thanks, but I'm "too flighty and flakey" about all this to deserve any funding.

If I "really wanted" to find stuff out, my aunt's probably already been/got loads of documents from donkeys' years ago ...

I'd not be in a position to feel, at this moment in time, that any expenditure on it'd be worthwhile.

There will come a time when it's the right time and, as if by magic, budget will appear from nowhere. It's not really "big bucks", I just begrudge the total cost for access to documents that I already pay to store and pay wages to staff to "guard from me until I pay more" IYSWIM :)

Every day more comes online ... I'm patient.

Am I right in saying that in Judaism, there isn't an afterlife, or have I got that wrong?

Mixed views, though there is a general held belief in the spiritual afterlife.

I see someone's already answered. Ask 1 question and get 2 answers (paraphrasing the Jewish quote 'ask 2 Jews get 3 answers')

I'm going to join the local Family History group. I looked them up yesterday, they have a big building full of stuff/access to records etc .... and it's cheap (about 12 miles away) ... but .... they charge membership from 1 October and I got the impression that if I joined now it'd only count until then, so I've made a note in my diary to join on 1 October :)

Frugal, sensible ... not tight :)

I will encounter researchers of my family name at that group because it's well-researched... so I'd expect a huge collection of information to just drop in my lap.

My family were "common Ag Labs" but well researched due to one "very notable chap" in the tree (not blood related, he was adopted via a marriage) ... and half the world wanted to research his tree ... so there should be lots just sitting on shelves.

PN, I always thought I was mad to even think about this stuff, but from what you say about your rellies maybe I'm not so mad, and maybe it's true! Have to say have kept Dad's hairbrushes with idea maybe could do DNA stuff. If I win the Lottery - think this kinda stuff too expensive at present.

Glad I'm not the only one. I have a jumper of Dad's that I have carefully pulled off a few hairs that look to be his.

I lobbed some cheap mince into the SC earlier, with some other random bits/bobs, "curried mince and peas" really .... just thought I'd have a quick taster - scooped out about half-a-meatball-sized chunk of mince, then promptly dropped it into the washing up bowl ... annoyed :)

Then, I burnt my tongue on the second attempt as I ate it too fast.

This morning received my requested PIP Medical Report. (Our lovely next door neighbour posted it on to us here at caravan)

    (Deleted stuff about Med Report.)

Just hope don't get decision too soon, as we have a London trip arranged for 22 September to see Tim Peake speak at NewScientistLive at Excel. Plus visit with Grandkids (oh and Daughter and Son in Law too of course, but they not so important of course! ;) ) Would be very difficult in John's car, as not as comfy as mine. We have to stop in hotel half way anyway as I can't make full trip in one day.

maggie, it seems that the standard procedure is to reject initially in the hope that claimants give up.

Just found an advert in an 1823 newspaper, somebody's looking for a Parish Register that's missing and they are seeking the baptism details of a particular girl. The parish it is said to be in is where my maternal line were living 1800-1900... so it caught my eye.

So then I wondered, as you do, "Did he ever find it?" and I figured it'd not take me long to do an online search .... I've found several births in the area of the chap's children, but not this specific girl.

    Still looking though.

Wonder why he was after it.

Alleged baptised 1690-1710, the father was born in 1660. The advert was several generations later (1823).

The dates he was after, for that single parish, exist on microfilm... but he seems to have moved about a bit, as other children were born in an adjoining parish.
So maybe if the baptism did exist it was in a 3rd parish.

No joy. Found him/his sister (1660/1655); found his sister's marriage (1679); found 7 children (1686, 1687, 1691, 1695, 1699, 1701, 1706), but no Catherine. But also no marriage for him ... so maybe he married and had one child baptised in a parish where the PRs haven't been done yet.... or were lost.

Also found his parents, grandparents, grandchildren and more ... but no Catherine.

2 scorching days, then a bank holiday: Grey, cool, overcast, looks like rain but it might hold off :)

Update 11:15: Then it rained a bit.
Update 11:30: Rain stopped and it's back to being grey.
Update 13:30: Still grey, cool, overcast. A "nothing" day with an atmosphere that feels "flat".

Lovely sunshine for pretty much most of the day here...slightly cooler than of late but it was still a windows wide open and shorts on day.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
