Tin roofs - my first thought was that they must be bloody noisy when it rains. My second thought was that it probably doesn't rain much where they have tin roofs.
It rains a fair bit in Sydney (about twice as much rain as in London) and tin roofs used to be normal.
The first house I lived in here had a tin roof was amazing. It was like living inside a drum when it rained. I loved it.
When the rain came down hard there was no point in having the TV on. We'd go out onto the back porch or the back garden, we were on a half acre plot and the house was tiny, and we'd just enjoy the rain coming down. Sometimes we'd go out and play in it and other times we'd just sit and watch it fall. Most often of all we'd play a game called Let's See How Wet Daddy Can Get Clearing Up the Back Yard Before the Lightning Comes Over. It was more popular with other members of the family than it was with me as a game I think it's fair to say.0 -
We used to have the game of see how quickly mum could get the almost dry or dry washing off the line before the heavens opened properly.
We now all play the game with her.....although there are a fair few exclamations of "Eww, underwear! Someone else do those..."We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

You shouldn't kill them (yeah right) as you need to take them to the local hospital so they can milk them for venom to make anti-venom.
Obviously I always spare deadly spiders and risk my life on a regular basis to take them to the hospital*.
* I do not do this0 -
In further Aussie-watch, for the second day running someone (hopefully the RFS) is back burning* so the house is smelling strongly of wood smoke. It's kinda nice but I do wish we'd get some warning because when we had this yesterday I did wonder whether we had a bush fire going.
*Back burning is where the RFS volunteers plus the paid fire brigade (where the paid firies exist) burn the undergrowth and dead wood in order to remove fuel so that bush fires aren't burning so badly around properties.0 -

They used to do that in Yosemite National Park, California. Then they studied pictures from years ago of the aftermath of fires and realised that the trees that burnt down were random, some survived and some died off, whereas the systematic burning of areas destroyed all the trees and so the regrowth pattern was different. Now they do a watch and wait.
Different in that there are not properties at risk within the Park.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Cripes. Well this turned into the Herts Festival of Sorry while I slept!
In other news:
1. It's 30C today.
2. It's bonus day
Actually, more accurately it's remuneration at risk day today. The way we've been told to think about it is that you have a part of your pay which is held until the end of the year and is paid to you about Easter time. You should expect to get half of your remuneration at risk. I got 80% which I was pretty bloody chuffed with. Next year my rem at risk doubles as a result of my efforts this year.
.
It sounds like shareholder risk, only wth the opportunity to participate fully in losses but not fully in gains.0 -

As PN would say, what could possibly go wrong? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Any fool can come up with an idea.... we all have great ideas in our heads every day ....
It takes a special kind of idiot with skills that believes in their idea so much that they build a prototype at home then sell their house to fund it before appearing on DD to get the big knock back from the Dragons0
