Yes. :( Woke up to the news of it an hour ago.
Driving a lorry a mile through a crowd is a new one. Horrific. :(:(:(

The mindset is so, so alien.
It has been done in Israel in the past. Makes it even harder to combat terrorism when 'every day objects' are used as the weapons.
    I think....

I fear the backlash more than the terrorism, actually. Eventually, some B***** will come up with the idea of locking up all the muslims in camps. Then, tiring of keeping them there, they'll look for some final solution to the muslim problem.

I doubt it'd come to that, although I fear there will be a lot of individual reprisal. :(
Not to mention what capital Marine LePen might make of it. :(

I was watching the news last night when the Nice atrocity broke. At the time they were saying 30 dead and over 100 injured. It was horrific at those numbers, for them to have risen so much overnight is awful.

How on earth do you even triage over 100 injured people?

That is such a lovely part of the world. The promenade is so wide, I just can't get my head around it really.

I hope that we will never see the like here. If good things have come out of this, first the French have a phone app that will now see where they are using GPS and alert them to any terrorist activity. The second is the #opendoor, where people open their home to total strangers to get them out of harms way. It is good to see the positives that come out of things as horrible as this.

News France 24 was just saying 20,000 people are under watch and that takes a least 5 police officers to watch each one of them...crazy figures and almost impossible to do really without making changes to the way of life...

Army reserves have been called up...not sure what else they will do here

Would you need to assign the same level of surveillance to everyone? I would hope that France has a GCHQ equivalent that could do a lot of the monitoring electronically.

Aiui every UK government worker has to undertake the Prevent training, to help spot radicalisation here.

What's happening in France is awful though. To those in big cities like Paris, it must feel like a never-ending nightmare. Ditto Brussels.

In more positive news, I saw Bob's thread saying that Gen's PPR had been lifted, so if you are about Gen, good to have you back and hope that you and yours are all well.

You look at what is happening with the schools in this country and think not spending enough money on the issue now will cost so much more in the future.

I received a message from Gen yesterday, delayed because he didn't receive my message until he had updated his apps.

His health is good and he may reappear shortly.
