I'm in South London too and hoping for good weather. I need good weather all the time, as i'm the evening dog-walker in the household.

    You lot are so knowledgeable!

I knownit's a woodpecker as there was a picture of one of those on cider cans when I was a teenager!

Such a crazy work day. I have sought solace in a bucket of tea in Starbucks. My brain is bursting.

Our youngest wants to work in the EU commission, as a faceless bureaucrat, although he's hoping to keep his face intact. He wants to apply for German citizenship, which he is automatically entitled to under their Article 116 (2) of their basic law.

      I think he will need:
      1. His birth certificate
      2. Our marriage certificate
      3. Our birth certificates
      4. Grandparents' marriage certificates.
      5. Grandparents' birth certificates, if available.

I have the first three items. Item 5 will involve checking German records, as they were all born there. But various people here (PN, are you there?) have special expertise in how to find the Grandparents' marriage certificates. The marriages took place in London, around 1946. Can you remind me where to look, please?

Edit In case it's not obvious "our" refers to DW and me.:)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

It was green, so my immediate reaction was it's a Parakeet. Loads and loads of those round here. But the beak was all wrong.

They've escaped from captivity and done remarkably well in N London.

For English copies of certificates, just apply through the General Records Office, it'll be about £10.

You can look them up online on http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl easily enough, to get/check the specific record office/quarter, but there's no need.

If you're working with unusual names, just the surname and a range of years +/-5 would give you a short list to choose from .....

But, you don't need to look up the record/page reference to get the copy, just contact the GRO with what you know.
