At 2am, that looks like a booty call!

I was awake until nearly 3, then awake again at 6-ish. I don't sleep well without DW. She sent me an email to say likewise for her.

Drinking very strong black coffee, but still feeling bleary-eyed.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    That's sweet.

Doozer lost some weight and stopped snoring. Then he put the weight back on again and the snoring is more unbearable knowing that it is a solvable problem.

He's away quite a bit with work in the week and then last weekend he went away with friends. As happy as I was to see him, I did not sleep well on Sunday night. I had to have a nap yesterday afternoon.

Daytime TV, that annoying Dom bloke, saving people money .... "Right on the Money"

    Usual drivel.

    The Perch family of Stockport:

Expensive TV package: tells them to cancel it.
Water: Go onto a water meter.
24 Year old son living at home: Pays £50/month rent. Told them to charge him more. He offered to pay £100/month. Parents don't want his money though.
Woman buys too much stuff - specifically tops she probably never wears.
She also likes to eat out a lot with friends.
"If I go to Sainsburys and I buy a top with my food shopping (husband) never knows".

They buy too much food, they have 3 freezers. "Maybe we overstock". Full sized freezer in the kitchen, another double-width freezer in the garage and a small chest freezer. Unplugging the big one will save £40/year in electricity.

They like to treat themselves to food. £320/month on posh nosh.
Pointed out cheaper brands. Tests them with a bowl of sugar puffs for taste. Price difference £2.85/box, cheap one is 89p. She wasn't really that bothered which she bought/ate.

Carrot soup. Both preferred the cheaper one. £1.89 -v- 85p.

Ham they preferred the cheaper one. £2.99 -v- £1.45.

Now she's getting the husband to earn an income by turning his hobby into an income. He can become a handyman, could earn £10/job he does.

Pub lunch with friends - £15-20 each time. "I want to keep doing it, there's no point cutting back so you can't go out".

Constant spending on new tops - she's never counted them. Probably close to 200 of them. She thinks she could save £50/month by cutting back.

They should take the £100/month and bank £50 of it without telling him, to build up a little nest egg for when he gets his own place!

Just realised! He only pays £50 a month? that doesn't even cover his food, I don't suppose!

Yes ... £50/month. £1.64/day - and as they were filming, they were sitting and eating posh scones, jam and toppings .... which probably cost more than that for just one snack meal he's enjoying!

Nothing wrong with £50/month if your parents can afford to run the household ... but the woman is giving up her part-time job to match her husband's retirement, so she wanted to try to find an additional £400/month until she's 65.

    £200 wouldn't hurt him. IMHO.

She's going to have to make a choice... you can only spend money once. Her choice will have to be: Buy a new top, or feed the son. Her choice.

They aren't poor, clearly "rolling in it". Her issue/reason for the programme is that she needs to cover her shortfall from not working .. but doesn't actually want to make any changes to her current frivolous lifestyle.

I must have missed the one living in a van as I've been in and out of the living room, but I did see the one who's saving on rent by living in a warehouse or something (missed the bit where they said what the building was) to deter squatters etc. I've read before about people who do that. Would that be the same chap? He was talking about being able to park in nearby residential streets, but I don't think he was actually living in his vehicle because he was talking about having free electricity, free water and no rent, and was able to shower at work or at the gym.

I agree the woman who buys all the tops is annoying though! For goodness' sake, she can only wear one at a time!

Just seen a big group of EU school students trekking past. Poor things, not a very interesting place for them to come to! Still, at least they can get into central London easily, which I suppose is why they're here.

Ah, I missed the start bit and assumed he was living in the van.

I looked into that guardianship once - even visited one property to look (100 miles away from where I lived).

They never had enough places .... it's mostly a big city thing.

A friend of mine had that, his mum didn't want any rent but he insisted and eventually, he thought, she gave in.
When he moved out, she handed him a building society passbook - she'd put ALL the rent he'd paid into it without telling him, to give him a start ;)

So she can't afford to give up work without changing her lifestyle. Really shouldn't be on the programme then. Wants her 15 minutes of fame.

Not that I've seen the programme.
