It took us 1 hour 25 minutes. I was quite proud of myself . I think that we athletes term it a personal best.
Don't start labelling things with terms such as "personal best" - others will remember and then expect you to improve on that next time.
It's best not to record times... to be honest. Competitive types will start to bully you0 -
Well done Spirit :T :j :beer:0

Hey, brilliant news, well done Spirit!
I hope Gen had read that and feels lifted by it.
Gen, if you are around and reading this, we are all thinking of you and wish you well for Thursday. I can't do hugs at the moment as have a dodgy shoulder, so will send a couple of kisses instead xxPlease stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I will get a copy of this. Sounds right up our street. Jake ( our visitor last night) sugessted to DD that when he is on the return leg she and her boyfriend join him to do the South Downs Way. They will think about it.
Is that the right one or the left one?
By the way, there are strange goings-on on t'forum. I keep getting "access denied" pop-ups, and then just now, I tried to quote someone, but the reply box was empty of the quote. Repeatedly. I had to manually quote it in the end.
Has someone rediscovered that Ring?(I just lurve spiders!)

Well done spirit!
I like GDB's analysis of the mother giving birth to her grandchild. What particularly worries me is that the baby could end up orphaned before adulthood.
Maggie I wouldn't worry. The research project will be to test X number of people of which Y will be given an MRI. As part of the project funding Y MRI slots will be prebooked waiting for recipients.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. DD and I did 5k race for life this morning. I "did it" for Gen. Hope the feelings make their way across the world x.DD did it for our friendwho we lost 3 years ago.
My gait set the pace. We came last. I was Ok with that as we had been followed by the back marker marshall for over half way. What I hadnt prepared for was a very public finish. We were the pair who had their names read out over the PA, a cheer from the remaining crowd and photos.
The attention had the effect of increasing my tone and making me stiffer.

I did a "walk for life" with DW, and we were hanging around at the end when the back marker appeared, walking with considerable effort. She got a really rousing cheer and lots of applause. I had the feeling that, very unlike you, she hadn't had a lot of applause or success in her life before.
I learnt from that there is more joy in cheering the back markers than the winners. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

One summer, when I was a Scout Leader, we took the troop off to the local school sports field so they could have a go at doing the Athlete's Badge. This involved doing six activities and getting points for each based on results, for example a faster time running or higher jumping got more points than slower or lower. One needed to exceed a minimum total points to get the badge.
Most of the lads "walked it" and went off to play football but one, admittedly rather weedy, lad wasn't able to get the required points. He kept trying until he was completely knackered but remained one point short.
After he went off home rather despondent, I rounded the others up and told them that I didn't want any arguments next Friday when I presented the badges and he got one too, despite not quite making the score. The bolshiest one, to my surprise, spoke up immediately, "That's fair, Chris, he really, really tried whilst we all had no trouble at all, so he probably deserves it more than us."
You should have seen his face light up next Friday when I called him out to receive his badge - and get a spontaneous round of applause from the others.

Oh Chris, that's really lovely and has made me sniffle0

Facebook does have its uses.... I just glued together some random statements from just one comment left on FB.
I had a story I was looking into ... and I'd had to wander far from my initial 'enquiry/interest' to get the bigger picture and see if there were any clues.
I had a list of people - and two people had the same first/last names; both had a peculiar middle name. I knew one was the son of the Dr. I knew that X's best friend was the son of the Dr. But which one was the son of the Dr? One of the most common surnames ever... it looked hopeless. You can't google for that Dr's surname alone .... it'd be like googling for "Dr Smith", and then finding/following every Dr Smith that ever lived to try to find out if he had a son called Rob!
Then, there it was, buried deep in some comments on one facebook post (comment #400 or so, but I was determined to see what the comments yielded) ... and somebody'd posted (badly/in caps, the sort of stuff you can't fathom out, nor care to ...) the fact that the Dr had left the area and the Dr's full name. And, instantly, I could tie up the Dr's middle name as the middle name of one of the two people with the same first/last name. I also got his wife's full name - and date of death - and from that I got her maiden name and address 45 years ago ... all because "she was a bit posh and in the antiquarian society and somebody produced a book of their members and somebody else scanned it and it's online". I also got the names of 3 siblings of the person I was 'after' and then the name of one of their wives. Gotta LOVE the Internet
Did get stuck on the Dr's wife's obit as it's archived on legacy and you have to pay to see that, £2.50, so that won't happen, ever. I've got more info than I ever thought I'd get on that strand though!
Phew. Thought I'd never crack that bit!0
