When I took my test we had to do a weird manouvre where you reversed around a corner. i don't know if it's still in the modern test but I doubt I've ever had to do it in the many decades since I took the test.

On the other hand we didn’t have parallel parking; I was a complete Reginald Molehusband, and if you remember those TV adverts on how to parallel park you’re clearly as old as I am. Oddly n the US , parallel parking was part of their test, although their car parks were so spacious you’d never need to use that skill.

It's weird you mention that. I reversed round a corner this morning. The first time in ages. I needed to turn round, so I reversed into a side turning, then forward into the main road but facing the other way.

Well, the guy I was supposed to be meeting never showed up, but if 4 hours and a lot of Jack Daniels doesn't feel amazing, I don't know what does :)

Thanks for the info, now deciding what my tolerance for pain is!

The first time I mowed my lawn a couple of years ago, I took great care to ensure the flymo blade was set at its highest level, so as to avoid taking too much off the longish grass. The trouble was, the lawnmower was upside down when I was looking at it ... so when I turned it the right way up, the blade was at its lowest setting and the mower soon started to smell of burning :o Luckily I realised in time and the mower is still going strong :D

Yeah, I realised the day after that not only had I cut the grass when we were due frost, but I'd put the mower on its lowest setting. Forgot I'd left it set ready for the first mow (facepalm). That was 2 weeks ago and it's not looking so great. I'm sure it'll be fine though, if it survived students for 10 years it should be able to survive me! Here is a dual purpose very badly taken photo so you can see the scene of the crime. I caught what I think might be a a sparrowhawk having it's lunch. It could at least have tidied up when it had finished (or preferably taken the other bird down in someone else's garden)...

I just picked some rosemary, and my fingers smell lovely! :)

Just been invited round to friends for Sunday evening "if we have nothing on". Am I reading too much into this invitation?

I bought/planted one .... recent winds caused it to get serious "wind burn" so it's quite brown/black at the moment.

Hmm .... sounds like a swingers' invite. Play safe - go, but wear your underpants.

Nice photo Nikkster! Must have caught a pigeon from the amount of feathers - the ones at the caravan usually only get blue tits, so not much mess! ;) Here's our caravan one... He got a bit too cheeky last summer!

Somebody on the Grauniad CiF who flies hawks told me it's a 2 year old male, and in good condition.

The good thing about having sparrowhawks around is that it indicates you have a good population of small birds. The bad thing is seeing those small birds killed under your nose! Though I have to say one of the most amazing things I have ever seen was a sparrowhawk chasing a blue tit round and round in the very confined and constricted space of our crab apple tree. Twisting and turning in flight so very fast, really was fantastic to see. And on that occasion the blue tit got away! :j

PS forgot to say your sparrowhawk could well be a female - they are bigger than the males, and so more likely to be capable of taking down a pigeon. We've had them in our back garden here in Liverpool, but it's been ages since saw one as mainly use front garden these days.

You are a lot more body confident than I would be, if you are considering all possible interpretations.

To ensure you are buff, you might want to spend the whole of tomorrow exfoliating, epilating and moisturising. Before setting off for the evening don't forget to ask the kids who still live at home "how do I look"? They should have left by the time you get back.
