POSH ALERT
If you were being taken to the opera for the first time in your life, what would you want the experience to be like? Is there anything you'd like to have happen or not happen?

A program to keep as a souvenir and a glass of champagne at the interval?
It sounds like a lovely idea."This site is addictive!"

Had it for years, of course.
Funny that, I've got one just like it just sitting around too - I thought everybody did!
The programme makes out that they're taking a huge risk .... but then you also spot that he's retired from the Army, where he was a Lieutenant-Colonel. Now, that to me means "guaranteed income/pension coming in every month, without having to do any work; it'll always come in. No company/employment that'll close"... so there's no real "risk".
Risk would be if he was self-employed, or relied on a job that he could lose .....
Worse case for him is he has to "wait a bit" to save up for something, or borrow a bit .... or, in his case, simply find more people who are prepared to do stuff for nothing/cheap just to get on the telly
It's not like he bought it and had a fixed £20k budget, no more money ever guaranteed to appear from nowhere.
It's all engineered.... teams of people working behind the scenes, lots of contacts, ability to gather new contacts as they want to be 'associated' with him/his chateau for a variety of reasons.0 -
Trying to work out what to do with something..........
Spoke to someone last week, on the back of a referral from someone else. Mutually decided that there is no chance to work together in the interim, due to the other sides company policy.
I've had an email in my inbox (from the original referrer) this morning with the email address for the same contact, stating that she is expecting contact from me.
Don't know how to handle this, as either something has been lost in translation somewhere or a rather large company has changed the way they handle part of their business. Betting on the former.
Although I suppose in the time it's taken me to type this message, I could have called to find out, although don't want to appear too pushy
ETA: Spoken to the lady again; policy hasn't changed, and she thought she'd spoken to me when it was mentioned.💙💛 💔0 -

It's really interesting how strong opinions are on this.
They sure are!
The most disappointing though is the level of debate, both from the leave and remain side.
I mean..."if we leave, roaming charges will go up" and "if we stay, we will continue to fund Spanish bullfighting"....really?
I think I've said it before on here, yes, the EU and its institutions are often deeply flawed and if I hear of another pointless EU directive I'm about to pull my remaining two hairs out, but on the other hand I strongly feel cutting ties with a market you're so intertwined with is completely bonkers.
In anticipation of a Brexit vote (which I think we'll have), I already applied for and got dual British/Belgian citizenship (better safe than sorry). The best part was sitting the 'Life in Britain' test where I successfully answered questions like

- caviar and champagne before the performance
- more champagne during the 'entracte'
- taxi to hotel (preferably room with view on cityscape/seaview/whatever)
- more champagne and sex until 3AM
- next day spa with mud baths, full body massages, saunas (go up from the low heat steamy ones to the 95C or so dry ones), ice pool, etc...
- taxi home0 -

Carmen's not a bad one to see for a first opera.
If it's going to be in French, which I expect it will be, then a good thing would be to download the plot in English so that she can read up on it beforehand, and maybe refer to in the interval, too.
Sometimes the plot lines in the programme are a bit sketchy, and anyway you don't want to have your head buried in the programme during the performance, so if she knows the plot before she gets there, it will increase the enjoyment no end.
(Unless she speaks fluent French, of course!:D )
Edit....
Actually, Wiki has quite a good one here....
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmen
It also gives some of the social and political background to the Opera, and a bit about Bizet, too. Probably worth printing out!(I just lurve spiders!)
