Going to the Opera is an experience in itself. I've only seen one 'live' but watched many on DVD with my eccentric uncle. I think Carmen is a good choice for a novice, lots of good tunes your wife will know. Worth going to one just to do it I would say, so not a bad idea. I think even if she doesn't fall in love with opera it's still worth doing once. If you see what I mean!

Don't get me wrong I love classical music in many forms, but Opera just doesn't float my boat :)

    They sure are!
The most disappointing though is the level of debate, both from the leave and remain side.
I mean..."if we leave, roaming charges will go up" and "if we stay, we will continue to fund Spanish bullfighting"....really? :(
I think I've said it before on here, yes, the EU and its institutions are often deeply flawed and if I hear of another pointless EU directive I'm about to pull my remaining two hairs out :), but on the other hand I strongly feel cutting ties with a market you're so intertwined with is completely bonkers.
In anticipation of a Brexit vote (which I think we'll have), I already applied for and got dual British/Belgian citizenship (better safe than sorry). The best part was sitting the 'Life in Britain' test where I successfully answered questions like

I've done a little bit of homework on getting Portuguese passports for the little ones. It's easier to start with the husband first.

Not something I ever imagined would be particularly advantageous, but there we go!

I'm one of those stealing your jobs, houses and wimmin, while ruining your NHS. Muahahaha!

...don't forget being a lazy benefit claimant at the same time as stealing all those jobs.

    Gosh! We're a multi-national lot! :)

Portuguese coincidence.......I tasted the lovely Portuguese custard tarts at Faro airport for the first time. (I think I said they reminded me of Maids of Honour tarts).

Well, yesterday I went to my local Coop, and for the first time ever, they have started to sell Portuguese custard tarts! :)

    Guess who bought some? :D

Oh, and in case anyone speaks Portuguese, I managed to say Eu não sou uma tartaruga.

(It's best not to ask! :D)

Yes, the ones in co-op are really good as well!

Pasteis de Nata. I had them for breakfast every day last week :o Beautiful. I have a love of all custardy, burnt sugar puddings.

Presumably, that is why the Duchy holds some of the money back in case a legitimate claimant does come forward.

But they're unlikely to if their name's not on a published list.

    What's YS?

    Nobody appears to have answered.

It's the shortened version of "Yellow Sticker", meaning "reduced stuff that's got a yellow sticker on it."

Read the boards and you find lots of people professing to feed a family of 10 for just £1/week because of all the YS bargains they pick up.

However, for most people, these YS bargains simply don't exist. You get the odd thing, maybe here or there. e.g. I look ALL the time, I'd expect to find something for, say, 10p, once every 10 years. Some people seem to find those prices weekly!

Every store is different .... and maybe those people live next door to a store that does have a lot of reductions and they've honed their skills to the minute for when the food's being reduced.

I did see that, but dismissed it as it's not really true. It's not that the stuff has nearly gone off .... it's that the marketing people want to keep stock shifting quickly so they put a rough/arbitrary date on a lot of stuff.

    :)

If someone knows their relative had been resident in Cornwall or within the traditional boundaries of the county palatine of Lancashire (Duchy of Lancaster, which works the same way as that of Cornwall, except it's the Queen rather than the Prince of Wales), then I dare say an enquiry of Farrer & Co would set the ball rolling.

They must have a process, otherwise why hold back part of the monies in case of any legitimate claims?
