viva I've just said to OH a few minutes ago "Isn't it cold?" He looked surprised and said "No!"
I'm wearing a microfleece over a teeshirt and my hands are freezing. Might have to insist on turning the thermostat up in a minute!
thermostats as in central heating type sadly a thing of the past.....getting use to the old fashioned methods now though:(0 -
It does look like Art Deco.
It's nice! Rather unusual, especially with that bangle.
Is it made of steel or chrome?
Does it work?
Might be worth getting an estimate for restoration.(I just lurve spiders!)

This one was sold on eBay for £13.50. It hasn't got the unusual bangle that yours has.,It was described as 1940s Art Deco.(I just lurve spiders!)

Maggie I find my varifocals are best for the computer - apparently it counts as "middle distance" rather than readingGlad you like your new glasses. I think the problem with reading glasses when you're used to varifocals is that you need to remember to look through the middle of the lens IYSWIM. If you continue to have problems with them, take them back and see if the angle of the lenses needs adjusting
The optician says I could do with some new ones as my right eye's become more short-sighted as a cataract is starting to form, but they are so dear they'll just have to wait a while!
I don't like my varifocals for computer as only a little bit is in focus. So if I'm looking at full page art work, or video, only some of it is in focus. My reading specs are better for all of that. I'm getting cataracts too - he says no problem yet and won't be for ages as it's slow stuff to get worse. That's why my distance stuff has changed as the lenses have got stiffer, so apparently means I need less strong distance stuff. But means lenses (the ones in eyes) are yellowing, so I'll be losing the ability to see blue - my favourite colour really - think lapis lazuli! Oh well, I can think how Monet coped with his sight difficulties.Hmm, I'm having mine done next week - last done somewhat more than 6 years ago
I've been managing perfectly well with el cheapo reading glasses of eBay for several years - +1 dioptre had working well for most reading whilst not being so strong that I need to keep putting them on and taking them off to move around home. For smaller print I need +2 dioptre so gawd knows what the test will reveal. Long distance vision is fine, the +1d specs don't make things any sharper, just a bit bigger. The main thing I want to be sure about is that I'm legal for driving, and that there are no unforeseen (sorry) problems that need attention.
I think the driving thing is going to be more distance stuff. For ages I only needed reading glasses, but did actually get ones for my eyes rather than just magnifying ones (I do a LOT of reading). First time I needed distance glasses was when I went for testing 6 years ago. The reading stuff is just normal aging thing. I don't know why I started to need distance glasses. I bought plain distance and varifocal back then. I know varifocal can be difficult to use and not everybody can manage to get to grips with it. So I did use my distance glasses for a while, but stopped and I've lost them now!PasturesNew wrote: »
Anyway .... I think it's tomatoes, the size of redcurrants. The name was some combo of those facts. Tomberries? That might be it.
<snip>
Usually, say, a punnet of small cherry tomatoes/similar at Lidl might be £2/Kg. These tomberries were ....... a staggering ...... £14/kg!
Oh that sounds like the tomatoes I grew a few years ago back at the caravan when I tried to use a self watering thing... Didn't get tomatoes, got berries instead. One of our neighbours took some home with her to show the kids in her class (primary school). Perhaps I should conduct the experiment again! :rotfl:0 -
Stick the photo on here and let's have a butch at it!
Art Deco sounds nice! I love Art Deco!
"Ticka ticka Timex, tra-la-la!"
I always knew it was nearly Christmas when that ad came on the Teev!
That and "She'd love a Babycham!"
And "Tom Thumb, Tom Thumb, the Christmas gift for men!"
Stumbled through a time warp here. John Collyer, John Collyer , the window to watch". Er, slightly more aimed at blokes that ad.
"Happiness is a cigar called Hamlet" was another one that I do not endorse in any way as tobacco has nothig whatsoever to reccommend it.;)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Hello NP,
Not been around for a few weeks, so apologies for missing any momentous NP event.
i have been enjoying myself, which has been while coming.
firstly my driving licence arrived, and I ventured out and about. Afterall the trials of getting it, the DVlA gave me a full licence. The only condition being that i wear my glasses. No disability restrictions. The reality is I still need to have an adapted car, but if I recover enough, I will not need a further test to drive a normal car.
Secondly we had a lovely holiday in Barbados. I was able to snorkell, float and swim using breast stroke. The swimming was less successful as I could only go around in a circle. The problem
of having one arm stronger than the other.
Last but not least, we collected our puppy yesterday. he is adorable. Oh is besotted. oh was responsibe for putting puppy to bed in his crate last night. I came down at 4am to a kitchen floor accessorised by heaps of poo, OH asleep on a sofa and the puppy asleep on the floor beside him. The puppy had stayed in the crate for 20 minutes before Mr Spirit had caved in! Have to see what tonight brings.0 -

]PasturesNew wrote: »Fridge is now "Full-a-Salad". It took a long time because, mostly, I wasn't doing anything. I'd pop through every 20 minutes or so and just "do a bit more".
Lettuce, washed, chopped, put into a plastic container.
4 boiled eggs were nuked, then shoved into cold water and left to cool. Shells were then dried and they went into a small freezer bag, with the top twisted (keep the farty smell in there else it stinks the fridge out), then plonked into an old/saved marg tub.
Pasta was mostly "cooked" in a jug with boiling water, then I nuked it twice for 1 minute at a time with long stands in between until it was ready - cooled that with cold water, then mixed it with a big dollop of salad cream + garam masala + hot curry powder, so it's Curried Conchiglietti (or whatever it's called). That's now in a small lock n lock box.
A red pepper was chopped and wrapped in foil in a plastic lidded box.
Cheddar was grated into a lidded plastic box.
Tomatoes were left in the packet still - it doesn't take any effort to cut one of those on demand.
Cocktail sausages were bought today, so a 400gram unopened package. Once opened I'll drop them all into another lidded box in the fridge.
It's almost like "real food" isn't it
Everything in my fridge is kept in plastic lidded boxes and stacked. I hate those fridges where everything's in bags and spilling out etc. I like to keep foods clean/safe and separate. It's easy to see what you've got when it's stacked and you can move things around easily too.I think....0 -

Maybe where you are in the sunny South
It's supposed to be dry up here today, but definitely not "scorchio" - although that suits me.
Supposed to be dry tomorrow too - which will be handy, I can walk to the opticians so won't have any problems driving back if they want to dilate my pupils.0 -

I would hope it would be all distances TBH. It's no good being able to see a car two miles ahead up the motorway if you can't also see a kid 20 feet away in an urban situation. I can see that theoretical kid no problem but maybe not perfectly sharply, hence going for the test tomorrow.
The first legal requirement of being able to read a number plate at 60'/20m is somewhat "loose" whilst I have no idea if I have "a visual acuity of at least decimal 0.5 (6/12) measured on the Snellen scale", indeed, I don't even know what that means.
Aha, I've looked it up - it's the bog-standard eye chart.
Which reminds me of the Father Ted episode when they took Father Jack off for an eye test. All the lines read either "Drink" or "Girls" so he could apparently read them all, which confused the optician until Ted pointed out that those were Jack's favourite words0
