I think one big worry is that after a certain temperature increase the Gulf Stream will stop flowing and we'll be like the coast of Labrador. It's happened in the past. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

You're right. It's only the Gulf Stream that keeps our weather mild.
If that stops, we'll be really stuffed.
Don't know what drives it......... I'll go google! ...........
Edit. .........bin a-googling! It is a bit complicated, but the basic premise is belowThe two main driving forces behind it are the prevailing southwesterly trade winds and the circulation of the water far below the oceans surface, the North Atlantic Deep Water (NADW) circulation. Water in the north Atlantic sinks because it is dense. Density of water is increased by both salinity and temperature - the colder and saltier the water is the denser it is. This deep water flows to the Gulf of Mexico until it warms enough to resurface and flow back north as the Gulf Stream.
Some 11,000 years ago the NADW shut down in response to subtle shifts in global climate. This slowed and diverted the course of the Gulf Stream to such an extent that the regional climate of the Northeast Atlantic became considerably cooler. As a result Northwestern Europe dropped back to ice age conditions within tens of years. It is now suspected that global warming may trigger a shutdown in the NADW, and a slowing or diversion of the Gulf Stream, which would ironically lead to colder climates throughout the UK and Northwest Europe.(I just lurve spiders!)

Something to do with cold salty or possibly less salty water in the N Atlantic sinking and forming part of a globe straddling figure of 8 of huge undersea and surface flows. Lotta people worldwide would starve and die in hunger migration battles when it happens.I think....0

I think we have had a very unusually hot May - I think earlier in the month it was 27 degrees in Scotland, I suspect most years Scotland never sees 27 degrees. I haven't checked recently but I wouldn't b surprised if we were 2 degrees above average which in meteorological terms is f**ing loads.
Are you sure you live in the same county as me? Up here in Cumbria there's no such thing as a good year or a bad year. We just get - weather, like it or lump it :rotfl:
Every valley has its own microclimate - don't like the weather where you are? Go round to the next valley and it'll be different - unless, of course, you made the mistake of travelling in the same direction as the weather, in which case it'll now be much better where you were :rotfl:0 -
viva I've just said to OH a few minutes ago "Isn't it cold?" He looked surprised and said "No!"
I'm wearing a microfleece over a teeshirt and my hands are freezing. Might have to insist on turning the thermostat up in a minute!0 -

Trouble is, with a cold salad, you can't have too many "things" on the plate at any one time because of what you have to own/open/use and all the leftovers that could cause. e.g. cucumber, no point buying one as I've already got to get through tomatoes, peppers and a lettuce before they go off.
You can chop it up, put it in plain yogurt or crème fraiche and make a cucumber raita type thing?
Or slice it into fingers and eat it with cubes of cheese as a snack!
Left-over toms, pepper, lettuce and even cucumber can be chopped up and just chucked in a flash stir-fry to accompany anything!(I just lurve spiders!)

It's still a LOT of cucumber, on top of all the other food that needs eating up.
No stir frying. No frying. No hob.
The thing is, the cumulative volume of food that needs to be got through, by one person, means you have to rein in the variety.
When you buy "the salad basics" it's enough for 4-6 people... then you add in the other stuff you want/like .... and it's a huge amount.
I use fat free fromage frais rather than yoghurt, but it's an amazing base for just about anything. This lunchtime I had pea dip, and dipped cucumber sticks into it, but you could just as easily make a cucumber dip.
I use fromage frais to make:
Mint dip
Pea dip
Curry dip
Cucumber dip
Fake sour cream for use with mexican food etc (just add a bit of lemon juice and eat straight away)
Creamy tomato pasta sauce
Add sweetner for a low cal topping for strawberries
Add a low cal choc drink sachet for low cal pudding
And much more...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
