Watching some music tv - so many no imagination covers of classic songs. I have nothing against reworkings per se but just adding a slightly more modern backing track with an anonymous poplet singer :(
    I think....

Blame TV talent shows michaels. That's their stock in trade.

I so want this to transfer to the UK. Sounds hilarious:

I would say I'm jealous of Gen, but St Kilda's not exactly just down the road from Sydney.

CK I think there are some amazing countries in Europe that aren't marketed here.

When we were watching the Maltese round of Eurovision, they showed an amazing advert for holidays in Slovenia. It looked drop dead gorgeous, yet I've never seen it here.

Slovenia is lovely too, but I have to admit, I haven't seen their 'I feel sLOVEnia' (see below for those that don't know what I'm on about) advertising in the UK at all.

Maraaya and Ula (second via Karo Media, which is at least part owned by Marjeta and Raay) both did their bit, and when I was trying to explain it to a family member in the UK, that was the same concern.

The other one that did surprise me as not being seen in the UK is Tivat in Montenegro. It's a beautiful city (although population is only about 11000), but is going to have a superbillionaires marina for yachts (sp?), with the port under (I believe) Canadian ownership. It's still very cheap at the same time.

The branding I'm on about is here:

Simple, to the point and reasonably clever IMO.

There used to be a series called Rough Guide on the telly which gave an overview of various cities. As the cold war was still on, they were all about western capitals except they did one on Ljubljana, presumably as it was communist but politically neutral and somewhat westernised, and used our alphabet. It was a real eye-opener. Slovenia's a fascinating treasure.

I can't get over how much there is to see in Europe, but I'm thinking of its cultural side. I'm not sure how physical features like the Alps compare with the Rockies.

They had some funny ideas. There's a Hemingway novel where a woman is advised to take up smoking as it will result in a smaller baby and thus an easier and less risky birth!

My mum got scared off from smoking while pregnant (or smoking in general really) when her sisters all had big beggers whilst hers were all fairly small, I was her largest at six and a half pounds.

A friend of mine (now sadly departed but not due to cancer - she became an alcoholic, none of us knew!), smoked all through pregnancy and got the warnings all the time about having a small baby. When her baby was born and the midwife came round a few days later, she turned around and said she was glad she had a smaller baby because she smoked as she couldn't imagine what her 10 pounder would have weighed if she hadn't.

For balance - when I was in hospital after having one of the boys, a woman couldn't understand why her baby was so small compared to others (barely scraping 5lbs full term), she was a chain smoker which she hadn't been when she had had her other healthier weight children.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

One of my work colleagues goes to Slovenia regularly. She says you get the tourist standards and food of Italy, with the coastal scenery of Croatia and beautiful mountains of Austria which sounds a great combo. She also loves Ljubljana as a small city with a little of everything. They are considering buying a house there as it is so reasonable.

That ad is great CK. As you say, v simple, yet effective.

There are so many places I want to go to in Europe. A lot of them on my current wish list are little old cities on the Adriatic. I would like to go to Montenegro too.

It's such a shame that Albania was so scarred by Hoxha. I bet that would share the beauty too.

I'd do it with a car anyday. In fact, Europe with a car is probably a very good idea.

Never been to Montenegro, but have been to Serbia a lot in the last few years.

Timisoara (Although in Romania, it's close to where I am now) and Belgrade are served from Luton (Wizz), and OH's old airline are going to be serving Tivat from Gatwick and Manchester from this summer. I think Ryanair serve Pogdorica from Stansted, so take your pick :)

Montenegro Airlines are at one of the London airports, and Air Serbia daily from Heathrow to Belgrade.

Albania was the most impossible destination of all back in the day. Celtic had to play against Partisan Tirana, and Jock Stein had to go to their embassy in Paris (we didn't have diplomatic relations) and talk through their letter box in garbled schoolboy French to get the team visas. They were warned to bring absolutely everything they needed with them as the country banned foreign trade, and consequently lacked everything.

A few people here managed to visit it IIRC; would love to hear more about it. Trev I think and maybe bugslet's OH or BertieUK.

    It doesn't matter y'see.

Get your anonymous poplet singer and their song as backing to some flashy ad like a German executive automobile. Make sure it has 20 secs of catchiness in it.

    Then you're sorted ;)
