Anyway, any prayers, vibes or luck wishes gratefully received!
Prayers as requested on their way.
Also, I agree about getting the advocate to explain about your hearing. (Please tell me if you want me to delete that bit after you've read it.)ukmaggie45 wrote: »PS today's our 46th Wedding Anniversary.
Congratulations!
Took my kids to visit my dad today. He's going to be moving into a sheltered flat soon. On the way home we were going past the entrance to the retirement village where he's going to be, so we went in and looked at the building and identified which windows are going to be his. It looks like a lovely place, and I think it's going to be much better for him to be with people rather than all by himself as he is at present, as well as much easier for him to be somewhere that's properly insulated and heated, and where somebody else is responsible for the maintenance of the building.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Question for Sue (and/or any other NP with experience of such things):
I think I recall your saying that one or more of your boys changed his name by deed poll at the age of 16 or 17. Is that right? If so, did he get it enrolled, or just do it? And if he didn't get it enrolled, was it ever a problem?
Thanks.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)

James was thinking about it but never went through with it in the end. What he did do was start putting both surnames down on things like social media and with school but all his official paperwork is still in his original name.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Lydia, might be worth getting the change started before school exam certificates get given out. I think it gets a bit complicated changing the names on these afterwards. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

Indeed. That's the reason we're doing it now. As far as I can tell, getting it enrolled is completely unnecessary and only done by a small minority of people. If he doesn't want it enrolled then it's incredibly simple and we can just print out a Word document with the prescribed wording, sign it, and that's that. He has to sign it in the presence of his two witnesses, though - like a will. The whole things seems very much like a will, really.
Thanks for your reply anyway, Sue. If any of your boys decide they want to do it, tell them not to waste their money on a website that charges for the service. The place to look for info is https://www.gov.uk/change-name-deed-poll/overview but it's not the first thing to come up on google.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I don't think you even need a deed poll. If you call yourself something different in this country, that's your new name. However, the natty piece of paper is useful for dealing with officialdom. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

My name was changed by deed poll when I was a child and I have been asked for the document by officialdom. One of my siblings lost the document so I had to make a Declaration, drawn up by solicitor, which effectively said that my name was changed from X to Y by deed poll in 19XX or thereabouts. No idea about enrolling it.0

Yes, I'm sure the deed poll comes in handy from time to time. I find it fascinating that you can simply change your name whenever you like, as often as you like, and (pretty much) to whatever you like.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
