For Viva (and anyone else who cares about Eurovision)

Tough call for tonight. Heart unwaveringly says Portugal, it's their "Lordi Moment" and you get the feeling it's now or another 53 year wait.
Head is torn: Portugal has a story, and the most simple of performances in the overall circus. Bulgaria is undeniably the best 3 minute television package in the contest, and there is a sizable Bulgarian diaspora in certain parts of Western Europe. Italy is still the mix, you're not favourite for 3 months without something credible. The only thing I hope is that the winner has won both votes.
After that, I expect to see Romania do well on the public scoring, and last to be fought over by Denmark, Spain and Germany.

I've got £10 on UK coming top 10 (at 7/1), and Romania coming top 5 (at 7/2), the latter because someone didn't agree with me liking it, so I've put my money where my mouth is.

I could consider having it fitted/laid down to "futureproof" my home when I do the small utility extension ... "in case" somebody wanting to buy the house in the future saw that as a benefit.... but you shouldn't do stuff to houses "in case" some potential future buyer MIGHT be gravitated to buying yours because of it...

Consider having an external plug point fitted when you have work done.

Big plus to be able to go out and leave workmen to it, knowing that the house is secure.

I would love to see Portugal win! It is by far my favourite. My other top picks are Bulgaria, Sweden, Belgium and UK. For the life if me I cannot see what all the fuss is about with the Italian entry.

As for Romania, I've never been into yodel rap... Maybe it's the start of a new trend. I'll give that one a pass but I'm glad its through as it is totally Eurobonkers, and what would Eurovision be without the odd surreal song (ditto Croatia)?

I can see Portugal doing really well with the juries, as will the UK probably to a lesser extent, though how they will do with the public is anyone's guess. I don't expect Australia to do as well this year either, after a couple of strong songs, theirs is quite forgettable.

My vote for Eurovision earworm of the year goes to the Belarus chorus, and best vocal harmonies to the Netherlands.

Will be watching from my sofa in Herts with DH and a tub of Heaven Dazs. Hope you enjoy it!

My cheap Sainsbury petrol place used to be virtually on my route to AmDram, but since we changed our venue, it isn't, so I only go there if it coincides with somewhere else I'm going to nearby and I'm low on petrol. I hate filling up, so only do it if I'm low on petrol and then I fill the tank full.

Plus I haven't had any fuel vouchers from Sainsbury's for ages. That used to make it worthwhile a small detour. They seem to have stopped doing them, though.

What's annoying is that there is a Tesco petrol station on my route, but I refuse to use it as I won't give Tesco my money, and years ago, before I started boycotting them, their petrol messed up my previous car on a couple of occasions.

I'm intrigued by this baroque and baffling waste collection service of yours, and also why it should affect your visits to the petrol supermarket!
    Do tell!
Formerly there were big green bins for recycling everything but foodwaste, once a fortnight. Now there's a food bin emptied weekly, a big paper and cardboard bin that never gets filled, a general waste bin that gets filled easily and a small green box for plastic containers glass jars and bottles and metal cans; all three get emptied once a fortnight to a printed schedule. Some of the pickups are at the crack of dawn and others are after 7pm in the evening, and the correct bins need to be out on the street. Some collections don't happen at all.

We stuff shopping bags with the bulkiest stuff and recycle it at one of the big supermarkets which has the cheapest petrol.

When we moved here, there was a huge brown bin (for food/garden waste), huge black one for general rubbish and 2 small boxes for plastics/paper.

The plastics one was always overfull, the paper one was almost always empty and the black/brown ones never had much in them.

We now have the 2 boxes replaced by a blue bin, with an insert for paper, which works much better for the average family.

I have no idea how long a run from the consumer unit to the charging socket is covered by the govt grant. Google might?
LOL... mine'd be right by my "No Parking" signs :)
Nobody could use mine, in reality. Except me ... and anybody I liked, who had asked...

I just figured, if they're digging up the garden anyway, another trench wouldn't hurt if I could see any benefit to it.

What liability, if any, would I have if a child randomly lifted up the thing and stuck their fingers in it?
It might be an idea to have some sort of lock on it, because, kids notwithstanding, anyone could otherwise plug something into it and use your electricity every time you go out! :(

I'd be petrified to plug an electric car into a socket when it was raining, if it'd been raining, or if it looked like it'd rain :)
    GDB2222 wrote: »
The manufacturers of the plugs/sockets must have designed reasonable rain-resistance in, as rain's a common occurrence, but I wouldn't want to be the first to try the system out in really heavy rain! :)

I like your idea of a dummy socket to ward off the kids.

I once looked into an external socket, for garden tools, and they really are very safe.

The socket is in a sort of box with a small gap underneath to let the cable out.
The plug itself is a rubbery one and everything in the box is insulated and waterproof.
I think there was provision for a padlock, too.

An alternative might be to run a cable through a metal conduit up to your wall, then a hole drilled through the wall for the cable to go inside to a socket.
The metal conduit would save a trench needing to be dug. or it could just be shallow buried in earth.

I was quite happy with the idea and still would be.

How far away from a wall of your house is your parking space?

    Approximately:
    Garden: 28-30' + turning area/space access 20' + car length 16'.
So 55-60 feet or so... say 19 metres.

That's a long way from your house.

    Me confoosed.
