PasturesNew wrote: »What liability, if any, would I have if a child randomly lifted up the thing and stuck their fingers in it?
Zero - the liability would be on the manufacturer for making an unsafe socket, it "should" be impossible to get a finger of any size in to the live pins.0 -
I'd be petrified to plug an electric car into a socket when it was raining, if it'd been raining, or if it looked like it'd rain0

Interesting no one feels the need to admit to the occasional bottle of wine or single malt or ready meal from M&S as an extravagance.
Single malt - no, I don't like whisky.
A mini-bottle of wine (more than that affects the ME symptoms, and OH doesn't tend to drink because he's on a lot of meds, so no point buying full-sized bottles) and a ready meal from M & S, certainly.
We have some weeks when I'm not up to much cooking (and OH rarely is in any case), so ready meals are a necessary extravagance sometimes.
Other than that - occasional Costa coffee and one of their raspberry and almond slices, or a tarte au citron.0 -
I do download all the latest security updates, and I have AV software. I also have a reasonably thorough backup regime, but with an enormous flaw.
My backups are automatic. So, I have drives connected 24/7 that the PC regularly backs up to. Also, I backup to my Google drive. But none of that is safe against malware encryption. The local drives can all be encrypted by the malware, and Google syncs a directory here on my PC to the cloud. If that directory gets encrypted, Google will update its cloud copy of my data with the encrypted version.
So, if the backup's automatic, the encryption malware can encrypt the backups. On the other hand, if it's not automatic, it won't get done.
What to do?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
So sorry about little dog, GDB. Your MIL would be so happy to know she was so well looked-after and loved.0

The manufacturers of the plugs/sockets must have designed reasonable rain-resistance in, as rain's a common occurrence, but I wouldn't want to be the first to try the system out in really heavy rain!
I like your idea of a dummy socket to ward off the kids.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I have a Kindle fire which I use as a sacrificial tablet, so if I think anything is a bit dodgy, I do it on there. That way if I get a virus, I do a factory reset, or worst case, chuck it out and buy another one. My back up drives are not kept connected. I also have a separate device which is only used for online banking.
I have no idea whether or not this is good practice or not, its just what seems logical to me.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Our Hive can be manually overridden from the thermostats on the walls.
So can the tado. It's so rare that they need to do it that I haven't shown them how, though. If I am only out for a working day, the house doesn't have long enough to cool down too much - I had the insulation upgraded when I bought it. The last time they had a problem was when I was away for a weekend, leaving them at home under the supervision of my friends next door. They texted asking me to use the override on my phone to turn the heating on, which I did.I think it is a reaction to always being cold when I was growing up (frost on inside of windows, lots of putting on extra layers/watching tv under rugs) but a warm house is my one luxury and so denying it to dw and dks when they ar home and I am out seems a little unfair...
My preference for a warm house comes from exactly the same reaction to the same cold childhood! If my kids liked the house as warm as I do, I'd just add their smartphones to the tado, and it would switch it on whenever any one of us is in, and only off when all three of us are out. However, they don't have the same desire for heat that I have, so it would be pointless expense to add them.Having a cleaner
Warm house and not worrying about paying for parking are my two extravagances.
Having a cleaner, OTOH, improves my financial position as well as my mental health. I work part-time because all the other balls I have to keep in the air mean that I wouldn't be able to cope with full-time work. To the extent that the cleaner makes my life more manageable, I can cope with working longer hours, which increases my salary by more than the cleaner charges me.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Ready meals, yes. Along with parking they're part of my response to the "financial position comfortable, mental health not so much" situation in which I find myself. I don't drink alcohol at all (not from any ideological objection but just because I don't like the taste) so that's an effortless economy for me.I am shocked that seemingly all my 17 y/o sons mates have been bought cars by their parents, let alone driving lessons. This includes people from different socio economic background such as a retired divorced woman, quite poor, that just bought her twins a car each
I'll be paying for my kids' driving lessons as soon as they turn 17, but if they want cars they can buy them themselves.PasturesNew wrote: »I'm sure the Queen would say... now she's having to pay holiday pay...
Actually, the royal family are pretty good employers, I think. My cousin works at Highgrove, and her husband did too for many years until he retired, and still does casual work there whenever something needs doing and he feels he can spare the time and energy. Although they don't talk details, they both seem to be very happy working there and disinclined to look for other work elsewhere.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Sadly, the little brown dog died this morning. She seemed quite peaceful.
My son and I have just finished digging a small grave at the foot of the garden. It's really hard work, and I do wonder how Fred West managed much larger graves on his own?
So very sorry to hear that, GDB.:(:(
Agree with the others that she had a good life with you. :T
I remember losing Avatar Dog. It is such a sad time. Sending hugs:Do you know anyone who's bereaved?
