I love it when people drive miles to fill up at the cheapest filling station - but forget that they've spent more in extra burnt fuel than the saving they made in replacing it ;)

A friend of ours used to do that until I pointed out that whatever he saved, he had spent more in fuel getting there. I was amazed that he actually hadn't thought of that point!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

When I was sixteen I mentioned my thought about getting a licence and a moped at the dinner table - three weeks later I turned seventeen and was given a course of driving lessons, so (apart from pushbikes) I've always been a "cager".

My mum rode a moped so she could hardly say no when I got mine, they were a little different when I got my motor bike but they had no say in the matter as I was 18 and had already left home....and I was not listening (I can be a stroppy mare at times)

Loved that bike, really really miss the burn up the A45 (as it was back then) when angry/stressed/frustrated.

Re cost of fuel -v- driving that far to get it.

I see that a lot with recipes too - failing to account for the cost of cooking.

It doesn't matter if the spud cost you just 10p if you're now going to bake it in a full sized oven for 2 hours, with the oven using 7kW/h to run (assuming 50% on/off for temperature adjustment) and electricity at 15p/unit, that's nearly £1 just to heat up your 10p spud.... might've been better off buying a small bag of hot chips from the chippy :)

I'm sure the Queen would say she lives frugally if asked ... and probably that she's "struggling". Probably has had to only employ one overnight footman to stand outside her bedroom (used to have two) - and now she's having to pay holiday pay on 300 staff she's had to cut back on her collection of original art and diamonds.... she now has to think for 3 seconds before buying them.

    :)
I doubt she buys art and diamonds any more, if she ever did.

I remember a lovely story told years and years ago, when Prince Charles and Anne were children.

They'd been out playing with the dogs, and when they came back in, one of the dog leads was missing. The queen sent them back out to look for it, saying 'dog leads cost money'.

From that, and loads of other things I've gleaned over the years, it would appear that the Queen is actually quite frugal, as much as she is allowed to be, and sees the value in things.

It's one reason why I have so much respect for her. :)

    Crime magazine subscriptions and books.

    That's interesting! :)

Do tell me more! What started the interest? What sort of crime magazines?

I paid for all my own driving lessons and car, no help offered or received. Both siblings had their lessons paid for.

My boys will have to fund their own cars and lessons although mum and dad are offering to help towards some lessons for James (Josh is not allowed to drive, so money saved there!)

My mum used to read them when I was younger, I got the bug. I suppose because it gives more of a insight into the psychology of crime, the prodecures etc. rather than for gory reasons.

True Crime, True Detective, Master Detective, Murder Most Foul.

I always wanted to a ton on the M1. Dunno why. Probably because it rhymed.
    :D
I never did manage to. The closest I got was doing 80 mph on the Kingston Bypass, and I didn't do that more than about twice because at that speed, the wing mirrors vibrated so much that you couldn't see anything in them, which was scary.

No longer bothered about the M1 ton. Would rather do a really extreme zipwire. Much safer! :)

My mum didn't drive and always rode her bike.
After she'd seen me have a couple of mopeds she decided to get one herself. She used it to go to/from work just 3/4 of a mile away.

One day she was almost at a standstill and there were wet leaves as she turned and she fell off it :(

I still feel a lot of guilt that because of me she bought that moped and so had that accident

My mum could drive but we were a one car household at the time, mind you, even when she got her own car she still kept the moped, only taking the car out when she absolutely had to drive us somewhere.

Are they all actual crimes, or are some of them fiction?
