I did have a ready meal from M&S this week before going into London, but that was a yellow stickered one so doesn't count. I don't remember the time before that. My ready meals when I do have them tend to be from Aldi, or the £1 ones from Tesco.
Um, going to a concert at the RAH is probably an extravagance also (goes away to look for another whistle smiley), I am not a profligate spender, honest...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Interesting no one feels the need to admit to the occasional bottle of wine or single malt or ready meal from M&S as an extravagance.
Interestingly, the things that some of us feel are an 'extravagance' are very often things from childhood that we resented at the time, so while we indulge now, there's still the nagging feeling that it's an expenditure too far!
My parent would never take a taxi, so I have horrendous memories of walking miles while lugging heavy cases around as a child.
I still feel a reluctance to spend money on taxis, (although I do from time to time in certain circumstances), even though, yes, I will buy the occasional bottle of single malt and not bat an eyelid! :rotfl:vivatifosi wrote: »

I am shocked that seemingly all my 17 y/o sons mates have been bought cars by their parents, let alone driving lessons. This includes people from different socio economic background such as a retired divorced woman, quite poor, that just bought her twins a car each0

I'm sure the Queen would say she lives frugally if asked ... and probably that she's "struggling". Probably has had to only employ one overnight footman to stand outside her bedroom (used to have two) - and now she's having to pay holiday pay on 300 staff she's had to cut back on her collection of original art and diamonds.... she now has to think for 3 seconds before buying them.0

What's everyone else's 'extravagance'? It would be interesting to know!
Crime magazine subscriptions and books. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

It was always understood that I would get driving lessons for my 21st birthday, and that's what happened, even though the age of majority was lowered!
No-one ever bought me a car, though.
Even my motorbike, I bought myself, on credit.
I didn't buy the sprogs a car either, just driving lessons. Thought it was more important to save major handouts for a deposit on a flat. And anyway, using buses and tubes never did me any harm when I was young!(Made me appreciate my car even more, when I finally got one!)
