Really? I'm very surprised that you don't control this more strictly!

Whilst I used to make it snow for the kids when they were younger if they were particularly good, controlling the climate is actually beyond my abilities :(
    I think....

Yes OK but why not switch the heating off during the day? Anyone wanting to warm up can add layers of clothing/ exercise/ go to somewhere with free heating (eg library).

Maybe the house has to be over-heated, 24/7 and the pool heated .... so he can say they're in fuel poverty as that's set at 10% of your income or something .... maybe there's some fuel poverty wheeze he's discovered :)

When my aged P was in their last couple of years, they were very sedentary, so had the heating on all the time, and kept turning it up to 30.

I found even just sitting there doing pills or bills was sweltering, let alone trying to do some housework or getting them a meal, etc.
I had to beg them to let me turn it down just while I was there, so I could get stuff done without dissolving.

Once they said to me, why are you so red?
(Because it's so bl**dy hot in here, that's why! :D)

The mutt is lying under my desk breathing really rather fast and looking unhappy. On the other hand, she made it up the two flights of stairs to the top floor okay.

I have a dental appointment in an hour, but I'll take her to the vet after that. But, what if the vet thinks it's serious? We are quite attached to her.

What happened? What did the vet say? Is the mutt OK?
    Sending hugs.

Oh, we know that ... and we wouldn't force you to move just because we thought there was a nice house :)

But "we like looking at pictures of houses", so you giving us a figure gives us a hobby. :)

I spent about a year and a half before I was really ready to move just looking at hypothetical houses on rightmove. I started when things were very uncertain as to what my budget would end up being, so I was looking over quite a large price range. It was fun at the time, and then by the time I was ready to get serious about buying, I'd really solidified my ideas about what I was looking for and how much I could afford, so I was much better able to make the right choice of house when it came to the point.

Get a Tado! Mine is great.
NP who have joined the thread since I got it may like to know that it automatically turns the heating off when I go out and back on when I come home, without my having to think about it or do anything. Since I work part-time and have irregular times of day and week to be in and out, it's ideal for me. NP who've been around the thread for ages will already know all that, of course. :D

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

A Tado looks good. Trouble is, I need a smartphone for it! :D

My phone is a dumbphone still! :D

What happens if your phone gets stolen? Will your heating never come on again because it thinks you're dead?

You can log into your account with a computer and delete that phone from your tado account. Or just add another phone. You can have several phones linked to the same house if several smartphone-users live in the same home. It turns the heating on if any of them are home. I don't bother with that. My kids like it cold, so they don't mind if the heating's off if I'm out and they're in. If it really gets too cold for them, they put the thermostat in the fridge, which always make the heating come on and stay on until you take the thermostat back out of the fridge and put it in some part of the living space.

Before going to the vet, I checked the symptoms online, and there's no good outcome listed. The possible diagnoses range from a large tumour to heart failure. The only not-quite-so-serious one listed was asthma.

The mutt is late MIL's mutt, so the kids are very fond of her partly because she is a link to grandmother. Two of the kids came along to the vet.

The vet said the mutt is very ill, but not in pain. Not sure what's wrong, but not asthma. We can have lots of tests done, but there's not much point.

Vet suggested that maybe we should 'part with' the mutt there and then, but the kids were not ready for this. I also felt "there's life in the old dog yet". So, she has a reprieve, and we'll have another look at her in the morning.

I've made an appointment with the vet for Friday afternoon, so it may not be a very long reprieve.

Funnily, the vet said not to make the dog walk, because of the breathing difficulties, so we carried her from the vet all the way to the park. Whereupon, she ran around happily sniffing things. So, I think we made the right decision.

When we got home, the mutt ate some cheese, which is her favourite food. But she left the wet dog food in her dish, which normally she would wolf down.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Doesn't sound very hopeful. :( But yes, I agree you made the right decision. No need to say goodbye until she starts to suffer.

When we took Avatar Dog for his last walk before being taken on his one way trip to the vet, he rushed about happily, and barked and barked until we tentatively tried throwing the ball for him, and we were amazed that he quite happily retrieved it over and over again, despite having a large tumour under his tongue that was not only making it impossible for him to drink because he couldn't lap with his tongue any more, but also, according to the vet, mere hours away from going necrotic and bringing on septicaemia. We spared him that, anyway.
