Given that most of your neighbours feel the same way, it might be pertinent to club together to get an road line-writer to paint some white lines delineating your parking space/freehold property boundaries, plus marking the house number that each belongs to. You could put signs on the fence too.

That way, nobody would be under any illusion that it's communal space.

I know that would incur expense, but divided between the houses concerned, it might not be too bad, and would solve the problem, or at least clarify the position, and give you all armoury.

Or maybe paint those yellow hatch lines that indicate you shouldn't drive onto the yellow box unless your way off it is clear?
I think it should be mandatory for a LL to provide the tenants with a copy of the deeds - the bit about boundaries, accesses, rights, etc... because they just make it up.

Absolutely. Years ago we rented a house - we chose it because it had a long wide drive big enough to keep the caravan on, and then a neighbour told us all the houses on the street had restrictive covenants not allowing keeping caravans on drives. Why had this information not been provided up-front? It would have affected our choice of house if we'd known we'd have to pay caravan storage fees somewhere else as well as paying rent.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Re baths - I have baths, I prefer them. Showers scare me for a lot of reasons.... I think it's because if something goes wrong it's going wrong about 6" from your face, whereas if a bath goes wrong, then the taps are way down by your toes.

I do struggle to feel safe getting out of the bath, as I've short legs and nothing to hold onto. It'd be very easy to slip when stepping out, especially as the bathroom floor level is, by default, lower than the bottom of the bath tub.

Luckily I've got a ledge at the back of my bath, about 2 tiles wide, so I sit on that and swing my legs over the bath sides.

Yes, the downstairs toilet came in very handy when I damaged my ankle in the new year. DH brought all my washing stuff downstairs so I could clean my teeth etc in there too. I just had to get upstairs and back down just once a day.

And the new bath does have the handles on the sides. I'm also not putting things I need all the time in the lower shelves of cupboards as it's hard work bending down.

Flippin ek, I'm only in my 50's and supposed to be running a 10k later this year!

Hopefully you won't need this for ages... But when we did the rebuild etc on our home we got taller toilets put in. (It even scored me 2 points on my PIP assessment! :rotfl:) But as you get older it seems to me that it's more difficult to get up from the standard low level toilets.

Good luck with your run - hope you can manage it. Cyber hugs for your poor back. We didn't have downstairs toilet when my back got done in, had to sleep on living room floor as bed too soft and couldn't climb stairs... So OH had to bring me potty and wipe me a**e as I couldn't move enuff to do it meself. :o Once I got back to bed our GPs had a commode they lent me, social services couldn't provide one sooner than 6 weeks!!!

Sorry for gruesome details, but I hope not to have to do that again!

Though fall before Christmas was getting that way... Fortunately I have crutches, so could use them to get from bed to bathroom. Phew! :)

Another thing is the height of wash basins. They are too low for most people. (Pastures excepting :D;))

When I refurbished my house I asked the builders to fix my basins higher than normal, and left them anote as well, as I was working away.

They ignored those instructions, so of course I had to live with the result, as it would have been too destructive to start again.

My next basin will be higher, though!

I did manage to get my kitchen worktops fitted at a higher level, though, thank goodness!

I'm not overly tall at all..... 5'6", but basins at a standard height are too low for teeth cleaning and face washing comfortably, even more so as one gets creakier.

I've only got little legs and my parents have got a taller toilet....getting up and off is even more fun than a standard height one for me! The other issue is that whilst on the thing because my feet don't touch the ground, I tend to be rather insecure and wobbly and have in the past fallen because of the instability.

I've only got one toilet and one bathroom, both are upstairs so on my very bad days I take up residence upstairs. I would love to have a downstairs toilet but the OT was at a loss to where one could be put without an extension being built, something they thought the HA would not easily do. I'd also like a walk in shower (either upstairs or downstairs) as I currently have a (attached to taps) shower over the bath and getting my leg over to actually get into the bath is a bit (ok a lot) of an issue and can only be done on a very good day indeed which are unfortunately, very few and far between.

I've got rails all around the bath enclosure to assist me but it doesn't really address the issue. For the loo, I have a toilet surround rail system thing as there is nowhere to secure a pull down rail and the room itself is too narrow for wall secured rails. Josh hates it and removes it when he goes in there, Joe loves it as it gives him somewhere to rest his arms when he is 'reading'. :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

It sounds like you could really do with an extension to give you a downstairs walk-in shower and loo, rather than just a loo.

Have you logged how often you are able to have a proper bath, and how often you have to stay upstairs due the loo access problem? If not, it may be worth keeping a diary, to show OT at some point, as it may be a spur to them finding funding for you to have an extension.

I struggle to reach the ground with more than tiptoes. I always think "I should get a little footstool", but it's never a priority so it's just always been something that flits through my mind when the problem is most annoying.

Morning all. Sorry for turning this into the old codgers thread. This morning I've had an online shop delivered - thank goodness for those. First time using this particular shop, not impressed with a huge vat of tomatoes with a use by date of tomorrow. DH brought everything in and put in on the worksurfaces to make it easier to sort out.

Today, I'll do a short walk round the block with the dogs and bake a cake.

Argos sell them from £57.99 (!!) for their Fantasy Fields Enchanted Woodland Step Stool down to £5.99 for their Little Star step

I don't know whether spending the extra really makes you feel that you are in the woodlands!
