Nice People Thread No. 15, a Cyber Summer

"No leaning your bike against my gate so that when I open it a bike falls on me." Spoken from the heart.
Assuming all these people are not sociopaths, a sign should have some effect. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Left, my car; right car, another marked spot.
You can see gate and 2 signs.
"My land" is everything up to the fence/2nd sign. To the right of the 2nd sign is owned by the car owner on the right of my pic.0 -
For the sake of neighbours I could add:
- no climbing over my fence to get your ball
- no balls to bash against car
- no letting yourself into my garden just because I didn't lock/bolt the gate
- no cycling through my garden because it doesn't actually have a gate/sign on it.
- no filling the storm drain with detritus and random wrappers that have to be fished out every 2-3 months by a couple who aren't dropping them there.
- no swinging from trees deliberately trying to break the branches, when those trees are the open plan front garden that doesn't belong to you
- no leaning on people's living room window and staring at people sitting on their sofa, while standing on "their land" where you shouldn't be, just because it's an open plan design.0 -
Perhaps it is time for some nudge, rather than 'No XYZ' you need 'Thank you to my considerate neighbours who remind their guests not to block other residents gates and their children not to play where they might inadvertently cause criminal damage that their parents will have to pay for'.....oops, my niceness got away from me just at the end their but hopefully you can see where I am going with this?I think....0

Well, I did think that an effective sign might say:
"You might not think it, but I actually use this gate every day to get to my car, so please leave this space clear. "No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

"No parking please, gate access required 24/7" might be better - gives a reason for it and clarifies that there is a gate there, since it is not impossible that people might not notice the gate with the boards on it matching those of the fence.0 -

.... might not notice ....
It is noticeable, when you're there. Very clearly noticeable.
"Any car parked here is assumed to be in the scrapyard scheme and will be stripped down for parts within 15 minutes. Thank you for recycling."
I did notice the one I'd stuck the note on yesterday morning was parked on somebody else's "land" later/overnight. I don't know if they're visiting that person or not... I have to assume they are and if they're not then it's that home-dweller's problem to address. I've set the precedent of enforcement.... it's up to others to realise that works and pick up that mantle. I did just peek and that car's gone, but the home-owner's bedroom curtains are closed, so maybe it is somebody else's visitor.0 -
Gosh it's difficult to keep up with the thread this morning. I too think something saying access required 24/7 might work.
I'm about to do the ironing sitting down as I've a bad back at the moment but I am beginning to think of the things that gradually we have to change as we get older or just less mobile. For instance at the seaside recently, as DH is really quite poorly at the moment, instead of the miles of walking we've done in the past, we used the cliff lift and open topped bus to get about.
Really quite depressing really, so I'm determined to change my mind set about it as I know there are others much worse off.Spend less now, work less later.0 -

Downstairs toilet - without that I couldn't actually be downstairs or in gardens! Though am toying with getting a camping toilet for back garden shed so I can travel as far as the end of the garden.
Bath with handles so you can haul yourself up. Unless you prefer to shower of course.0
