    Just heard a presenter on tv refer to something as 'too equidistant'.

    "The child who lived closest to the school should have been entitled to the place but the two houses were too equidistant from the school to decide that way and they had to allocate it randomly. "???

    Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
    Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    You can at least understand that sentence...... it's just a bit clumsy.

    The one I heard was referring to the uprights of a pergola or something, and was to the effect of "to be functional, they mustn't be too close, too far apart or too equidistant".

    All animals are equal but some are more equal than others.

    That sounds to me to be more of a preference for the aesthetic appearance.

    To be functional, uprights should be, well, upright - and of sufficient strength and suitable spacing to be able to support the anticipated load, not just the roof but also any anticipated weight of snowfall.

    We have 2 adult and 3 kids so divide post tax weekly income by 1.6 etc.

    Thank you. Sorry to be dense, but once I have done that, how or where do I find out the amount to compare my family's income to, given that we are one adult and two kids? The link didn't tell me, and googling was getting me to lots of pages that told me lots of other things but not that.

    No. But not as unsafe as I would feel if I were living in Seoul or even on the US west coast.

    To any NP wanting to follow the unfolding Trump Russia scandal in greater detail, I recommend MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow show" (clips to stream on MSNBC's site, and audio of the full show available as a free podcast). IMO she hits the right level of commentary and analysis for those who are reasonably intelligent but completely uninformed about US politics. :)

    I am always looking for the reason behind the news and was wondering if picking a fight with Syria and hence Russia was to demonstrate that he is definitely not in Putin's pocket....

    Also the backtrack on China being a currency maniplulator seems to be about not picking too many fights at once but the Chinese will play him dor sure.
    I think....

    I was using 60% of median equivilised household income adjusted as mentioned for household composition - here is a point estimate:
    Link

    Then of course there is the question of whether to go post housing expenses, regionally adjust etc. There was also some interesting ward level stuff on deprivation ranking wards by income deprivation for all, families with kids and oaps which paint interesting poctures of the local town - for example we have wards with poor pensioners (3rd decile) but top decile families and general.

    [yes even inner herts has some third decile wards :eek:]

    One of the instructions for the Seder service is completely illogical but fine in practice. It reads:

    Take one of the matzahs and break it in half. Select the bigger half ....
    No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    LOL ;)

    I remember, years ago, in my first full time job I was asked to package up some equipment for despatch. There was a checklist and procedure to be followed to ensure that all the parts were included and in the correct order;
    1 - Instruction Manual
    2 - Monitor
    3 - CPU
    4 - Keyboard
    5 - Cables
    6 - Top up box with packaging chips
    7 - Seal box and label for despatch.

    Out of curiosity, I glanced at the instruction manual as I started doing all this to find that the first entry was;
    1 - Remove all items from the box.

    Hmm. To get to the manual to find this useful first instruction, the recipient would have already removed all the other items from the box before finding the manual hidden at the very bottom - which would then tell them to do precisely what they've already done :rotfl:
