We never had the option what with working in education. Nearest we got to a term-time holiday was when we were visiting family north of the border one year. The nieces and nephews went back to school (the Scottish summer holday starts and ends much earlier) and we then took our kids away for a very cheap holiday abroad from a Scottish airport as we were off-season.

Came back in good time to bring the kids back to London to start school. Took a bit of planning but saved us a good bit of money.

Re missing school....I was off sick the day my class was taught the French alphabet and i never did get the hang of it! Luckily we were only rarely expected to spell words out loud in French.

I don't recall ever being taught the French alphabet, just all the letters grouped together in various ways and combined into sentences - with and/or without the accents where required, some of which the MSE forum doesn't understand IIRC ;)

    I need advice, please.

Our kitchen chairs have fabric seats which are long past the time when they need recovering. What would the NPs use for recovering. I suggested to DW that we get something that can be wiped clean, but she said she didn't want to sit on anything like that.

So, I think it needs to be fabric, but not something that's too hard to clean? Any ideas?

I still get mixed up between pronouncing j and g !

I was going to say j is pronounced like yacht, but on thinking about it, I think that's in German :o:D

I just remember sitting in class and thinking "Epsilon? what the heck is this Epsilon they're on about?"

It was all Greek to me (sorry)!

GDB Wipe-clean fabric is okay to sit on if it's textured, but would be hot if you were sitting on it for a long time. I would have a look somewhere like JL or Dunelm for fabric. Are your children still at an age when food often gets spilled? If not, I wouldn't worry too much, just choose something you like.

They are pronounced with a zh sound, as in the French 'je'.

G is pronounced zhay and J is pronounced zhee, so the opposite vowel sounds to those in English.

I had to look it up to remind myself! :D

Yes, in German, j is pronounced as in yacht when spoken. I can't remember how the letter j is pronounced.

I'll have to look that up now! :D

Thank you for such a perfect example of what I was trying to say about gaps in the kid's knowledge and/or understanding. :)

Taking kids out of schools to attend funerals etc isn't holiday. It's effectively compassionate leave, even though it isn't called that.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Oh dear, you walked right into that one .....
1] "I suggested". Bad start. Just "mmmmm" and nod.
2] You forget: whatever you suggest will be wrong, by default.
3] Now it's on your task list and you have to get it 100% correct ... or it'll be brought up in any spat :)

    Have a good Easter.....

Tell her to put a tea towel on the wipe-clean chair before sitting on it :rotfl:
