Growing up we always had a chicken on Sundays, but at Easter we had turkey. So it was cooked like a Xmas Dinner, with more food than at a regular Sunday chicken lunch.

At school I'd have made a Happy Easter card - comprising of a piece of card folded in half, an outline of a chick drawn on it and then balls of rolled up tissue paper glued to it. Certainly didn't do any Easter card giving/getting beyond those schoolday efforts.

Roast lamb at Generali Towers. No cards for anyone. Had a hot cross bun at work. Bought some sultanas in case I fancy making some but it seems unlikely.

The Girl is mentor to a 4-5y/o and they did Easter Hat parade together.

Tomorrow is 3 minutes away and is Good Friday but brings to mind a song. Generali's 1 day of Easter quiz is Name That Tune in One:

DD1 told me she needed moey this morning to get her teacher an Easter present and also for their class Easter Chocolate 'Secret Santa'. I told her to Foxtrot Oscar.

The ONLY time we ever bought a teacher a gift was once when I was in my final junior school year and (somebody who needed a slap really) came up with the idea of us collecting to buy the (horrible) teacher a "Magic Brush". From memory it was about £1 between 20-30 of us.

I got about 30p/week pocket money at the time, so my contribution of about 3-5p was just about doable.

The trouble with any form of collection is it's always those who are better off that come up with the idea - and those with less (and/or who disagree with the collection on any grounds) have to pay up whether they can afford it or not - else you're ostracised/bullied/whatever.

It's the same with a lot of "charity" stuff .... sponsorships etc. You're "forced" by various forms of blackmail into it.

Nowadays it still happens on the playground but it is the Mummies - we are getting teacher x a joint present from all the year 2s with a photo tree that will only have your childs photo on it if you cough up a tenner for the joint gifts so of course you can try getting away with the usual £2 box of choccies but it will then be very obvious that you are a cheapskate....

Airport lounges.....on our first trip to NZ, flying Premium Economy, we stopped for refuelling at LAX, where we were taken to a comfortable lounge and plied with free snacks and drinks.

On the way back we went via Hong Kong, where we were given.....access to a water drinking fountain.

First one of these descendants is easy to follow. The first feral, Peter Moffatt, didn't have any kids and only had one sister, so the family is one simple line of one family. Regular, working, people. One's "done well" as he managed to buy his council house - and has two Staffordshire Bull type dogs pulling at the leash.

Second one's family (John Allmark) are still all in the area. Regular, working, people.

Judge Joseph Makinson's downline are still posh. The one being interviewed went to boarding school, then Cambridge Uni, then the FT, then became their MD. Now Chairman of Penguin.

Second descendant of the Judge, living in Ruislip. They've never met the other fella, their cousin. Completely different sounding/lives to the others.

The Judge had three boys. Warwick rebelled against his father's strictness - he met/married a draper's clerk's daughter, called Maude. They had 3 children, after one of them died Warwick had an affair and ran off to Australia and the family never heard from him again. That put them from being middle class to working class/poor.
