Sounds like an adventure. I am not sure where I stand on firepits. Allegedly half the particulate problem with London is not from diesels but as a result of the 'de riggeur' requirement to have a log burner when you do a house refurb. And yet somehow this is not nearly such a big issue as those nasty dirty diesels (that actually serve a useful purpose in getting the plebs to work) for the chattering classes.....
    I think....

What the expletive is the point of having smoke control areas and then permitting loads of "exempt" wood burners?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Background TV has been episode 2 of amazing hotels. Guy builds a hotel in Ecuador rain forest, totally environmentally friendly, chemical-free......

    Minimum night charge is $1500!

So all the guests aren't locals, they will have taken long journeys by plane and road to reach the hotel. Not that environmentally friendly!

Hey! It could be one of those sarcophagussesses from Stargate, where the Ancient Egyptian alien gods rejuvenate themselves, which is how they have lived for thousands of years, subjugating all humanoid species as they go!

You could live for ever, Conrad!

And be Ruler of the World!

If they don't burn prohibited fuel (i.e. non smokeless coal) then they slip under the radar.

    PSML ;)

Mind you, I could have sworn the word "firepit" was used - which generally means a hole in t'ground, not a hollow plinth ;)

    And no mention of mileage.
Is my diesel, doing 1000 miles/year better or worse than a £100-200k petrol Ferrari driving to their holiday home on a 500 mile round trip every weekend?
Surely mileage must enter the equation somewhere.

That's far too sensible - and too obvious.
You'll never make a politician :rotfl:

It's as daft as the scrappage schemes that have been done and are being mooted (by some) for older diesels now.
The majority of lifetime emissions (for most cars) is in the manufacture and initial distribution - so the scrappage schemes encouraged people whose cars had already produced the majority of their emission to trade them in for a new lot of manufacture/distribution emissions, i.e. more emissions than they'd be putting out if they'd kept their old cars.
