Pyxis Just seen the post about your holiday. Singing holiday or "ordinary" one? :)

    Singing! :D

I don't seem to do 'ordinary' holidays these days! :D

One lovely holiday was a History of Medicine holiday in Italy. It was ace!

s are a very very large number of woodburners and similar stoves. The rules are here.

I agree it's very odd. I understand the "outdoors" bit - people generally only burn stuff outdoors occasionally - but all those stoves being exempt seems to defeat the point of having the rules.

Looking (briefly) at the list for England, wouldn't it have been simpler, and more concise, for them to have listed the ones that aren't exempt? There can't be that many, surely?

The amount/colour of smoke coming out of the chimney.

Thinking back to when I was a kid, smoke came out of all the chimneys. These days you see much less. Plus a lot of newer houses don't have chimneys. I've lived in newer houses since I left home and never had a fireplace.

I've no chimney, nor even a "fake fireplace"; sibling has a wall-mounted electric fire that has a flame effect, but no faux fireplace round it.

No nor me. In my little houses that would just have been stealing valuable wall space where storage or furniture could otherwise go.

If it was the Martin Randall one, that's the one I went on! :)

Talking of fires, does that mean that I can't burn my seasoned garden logs in my open fireplace once or twice a year, usually at Christmas?

Edit. A quick google suggests that I don't live in a smoke-control zone. Phew!

One funny thing; the rules say that you can use a chiminea, BBQ, fire pit, etc. outside, even ones with a 'chimney', but if it is in a structure i.e. asummerhouse that has a flue, then you have to use smokeless fuels. What difference does it make if it's through a flue or outside?

Would it be because outside it wouldn't get used to excess, but inside, you could use it in inclement weather and hence increase the times it's used? Or is there another reason?

What are the matzo made of?

Wheat or spelt. Oats, for Coeliacs. They are made of grains but baked very fast to avoid rising. About twenty minutes from mixing the flour to the finished product.

Could one of our Jewish NP just confirm whether banks in Israel are likely to be closed this week?

CK is suspicious at what he's being told :)

I didn't realise it's been that long since I've posted. Will schedule a long catch up for later this week, but will probably have to be in several chunks :)

I have an indoor wood burner as do many people here in the sticks, all perfectly within the rules. My friend lives in suburban Epsom and has a wood burner.

Very fashionable thing I'm seeing is outdoor kitchens - often built under a roof without any walls. A typical set-up is a sink or three, pizza oven, chimera, fire pit and so on all built out of stone or marble etc with matching floor made of same material.

Oddly enough got talking to a stranger Saturday night in the smokers area (I often have a puff when out on the beer) and showed him my firepit photos, and blow me he is a professional garden kitchen builder - showed us an incredible one he was building that day in North London - 3 sinks, outdoor fridge the lot, costing £35k. Chances of me showing off my little pit for first time ever and met this bloke - made my thing look ridic

I'm not an expert, but I'd expect banks to be closed today but open the rest of the week.

It's a bit complicated because some firms are closed during the Passover period, but there's more here-
