People use compatible inks all the time without killing their printers. At a saving of £60 for a set of inks, you save more than enough after two refills to buy a new printer. Should the worst happen.

The newer version of your printer is £100 at ARGOS.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    I suppose so. :(

It's just the principle of the thing. :(

Everything has to get thrown away because of just one vital consumable component. And we're being manipulated into believing that that's what we have to do.
And that it's cheaper to do that.

    It just feels so wrong.

Soon, we'll be dumping the car and buying a new one because the petrol has run out.
That's what it feels like, anyway. :(

Nothing has a worth any more. :(

I think I'll go and take refuge in my Duck Song thread! That'll cheer me up!

You are absolutely right! They sell the printers at or below cost price, in the hope of making money on the ink. As soon as one manufacturer adopts that model, the others all have to follow. It's a vicious circle, because many consumers look at the headline price of the printer, rather than the total cost of ownership.

WE often chuck colour printers cos it is cheaper to buy a new one than get more ink - and we use the cheap generic ink off ebay. Main problem is we don't print enough and th print heads get clogged with dried up ink. Most of our printing is on a dell b&w laser that for some reason was not only free with cash back/trade in but also came with a second free laser printer that sold for 30 quid on ebay. So far we are on our second toner which was about 30 quid for a high capacity generic good for about a million pages (slight exaggeration but good for several years)

We have one of those Dell printers too. I think at one point it was free with a laptop. If I need any colour printing I do it at work (on a public PC, for which I pay), but it is very rare. They last forever. Having a black and white printer is a good compromise.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Anyone else watching Panorama. I want to throw a brick at the television... albeit a rubber one as I'm not wasteful like that.

The thing is, my printer is also a scanner, which I use a lot, a fax machine, which I do use sometimes, mainly for authorising cash transfers, and a photocopier. It also has a port for a memory stick for photos, but I've never used that.

Another reason the b&w carts last much longer is that the kids don't have the same desire to 'print everything in sight' that they do when the colour printer is working but it is acceptable for most of their homework :T

Our printer is a scanner - but I am too lazy to use it, I just photo things with my phone instead these days....

I worked out how much I was spending on ink for the printer over the year, decided it wasn't worth it and just go to a little shop in the town centre and get them to print everything off...for us, it saves money doing it that way (they have a bit of a soft spot for the boys and tend to give us a bit of a discount/free copies)

Youngest has a (part time) job! It came via James as youngest just couldn't pluck up the courage to talk to the boss and has messed up every single interview he has had elsewhere (he gets so freaked out that he sits there with no words coming out!). He started on Monday with James for support, went in again today, once more with James for support but tomorrow, will be going in alone.

So far he has impressed the boss and some of the others have started calling him the Better (insert surname), mainly because over the years of taking the boys down there while James was working, he was picking up on the right way and the wrong way of doing things. He is also a perfectionist, wanting to please and scared of being told off, so tries to get things done the right way first time and not make mistakes.

He still doesn't like talking to the boss though....or eating because that would mean needing to use the toilet and he doesn't like public toilets.

The handy thing with this job is that when he goes to uni, he can just pick it back up again each time he comes home for holidays, just like James does.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
