rent a car?
DS2 is making the journey. 130 miles. He is in Manchester, his car is at home. I suppose being 21 he could hire a car, but I would be nervous of him driving a strange car, alone on strange route in the dark. Plus he would get train fare reimbursed.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. He should start from somewhere else.0 -
Banbury's where we refuel on the way back south from our northern sojourns; there's a big Tesco's (with fuel) there near the M40.
If DS can get the train/coach south, have you kith or kin who could drive the car to meet him in the midlands somewhere and come back by coach/train?There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I have no helpful tips on how to get to Moreton, but it is lovely when you get there. The train station is pretty central.
I like the drive up from our neck of the wood.. goes through Woodstock and Chipping Norton on the way there, Broadway if coming from the other direction. I have driven that route many times. If he does drive, beware the speed cameras, they are everywhere... like reverse cashpoints. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Day 3 of the big decorating plan went well, we have now done approx 65% of the room, with the most awkward corners done.
At the same time as painting the room, I am also taking the opportunity to declutter even more than it had been, ok not all of it is intentional but it was not my fault the CD racks fireplace thingy decided to fall to pieces when I moved it :rotfl:
I have no idea what the James and Josh's reaction is going to be, Josh will probably moan about the loss of his corner shelf and the mantelpiece plus the moving of all his things, James will probably moan about the loss of his corner shelf, the colours, the decluttering (having clutter makes him feel more settled and comfortable...and he is not the autistic one!).
We have discovered that youngest is brilliant at using the masking tape to prevent us painting on things that shouldn't be painted on and for straight lines, not so good at not breaking the steps, does not like the step ladder brought in to replace said steps as it is too high and has a bit to learn on getting even coverage of the paint or how to handle his brush so that he doesn't put splodges of dark red paint on a nicely painted cream wall when climbing the ladder.
I have come to the realisation that I am getting way too old and disabled to go up on steps, bend down or keep going for more than a few minutes at a time.
It's looking good though! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Annoyingly OH is away that night and I have a theatre trip planned.
Otherwise your 2 ideas combined would have been lovely. I could have met him and had a day exploring the Cotswolds.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I love painting but hate all the prep work, the cleaning of brushes and the putting the room back together afterwards.
Give me a lovely big wall with no awkward pipes, corners or ceiling and I would be as happy as Larry!
Ceilings I am absolutely hopeless on though, I decided about 18 months ago after a very badly failed attempt that I will just pay someone to do them from now on.
I've always done the decorating, when we moved in here, I did the upstairs and downstairs hallway in between running to appointments, school/playgroup runs and breastfeeding, it took ages to do it because of the tiny little gaps of time I had to do it in. Ex hubby was hopeless at decorating, in our bought house, he managed to drop the tin of paint down the stairs within 2 minutes of starting, in this house, he ruined the brushes/paint pads within 10 minutes. He didn't have the patience or the inclination to do it, so would sabotage it so that I would take over.We made it! Decorating would make a great Robot Job. Humans could be left to do the "tricky bits", robots could be used for wide expanses of walls and ceilings!
In fact, just a ceiling painting robot would be a clear winner from the start!
Just a small pod on wheels on the ground, fill up a tub with paint ... and it'd extend its little robot arm and just paint all the ceiling - and spot where the light fitting/s are and either understand how to do those, or simply leave a gap round them for the human to just do the 1' round a light.0 -
I see that Eurovision voting is apparently to change:So from May 2016, when the next one will be held (start hoarding your halva, sauerkraut and retsina now), each nation will offer up two sets of scores in the final showdown. Instead of presenting a score that combines the votes of an “expert panel” and those cast by viewers at home, two different sets of scores – the official diplomatic verdict, and then what the people really think of the songs – will be dished out. The change will “inject new excitement in the contest” the organisers explained in fittingly awkward terms.
