It will be interesting to see, in hindsight after the bottom of the next major crash, whether the losses incurred in that downturn are greater or less than the opportunity cost of being out of the market during the parts of the cycle US stocks were considered to be overvalued.Yup but firstly this cycle isn't over yet and secondly there were some points during the period where even US stocks would have been seen as good value.0 -
Looked at Spread Betting recently - potentially could this negate the concern of markets going down, if you bet that way?0

Spread betting can be a useful way to reduce your exposure to investments without selling them. If you get it right, it will be roughly equivalent to being out of the market. However, if you get it wrong you could end up losing more.stphnstevey wrote: »Looked at Spread Betting recently - potentially could this negate the concern of markets going down, if you bet that way?0 -

"Spread bets and CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 79% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading spread bets and CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how spread bets and CFDs work, and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money."
