Cinema Getting Too Expensive?

I very rarely go to the cinema due to the high cost and it not being that pleasant an experience, I went to see Deadpool on Tuesday evening with a friend using the meerkat code and was somewhat surprised that a single ticket is £10.29. That's quite a bit of money when the blu-ray will be out three months later for £13 and home cinema systems are very good these days. Furthermore it's not that pleasant an experience going to the main cinema, it's not unusual for the projector to be out of alignment and one or two speakers to be blown and I find it offputting when there's a lot of people with hot food watching the film.
There is a cinema attached to the local theatre which is the complete opposite, it's cheaper, the seats are really comfy, the size feels more like a big lounge almost, there's no hot food or eating/drinking noises and it's always set up correctly. Unfortunately they don't tend to get a lot of the big films or they get them much later as it's an enjoyable experience to go there.

I could name every film I've seen at a cinema in the last 50 years .... it'd amount to about 8 or so.
I've never been a fan. Too many noisy people, fidgets, etc. Also, where you get a funny line, followed by a slight pause and then the killer line, I'd find the audience would laugh at the first one and drown out the killer line.
I've never bought/eaten food in a cinema, that seems odd to me. I'd rather eat something in the light, where I can see what I'm eating.0 -
Get yourself a Lloyds Vantage current account and get 6 free cinema tickets each year for Vue cinemas.0

I can't fault the Cineworld Unlimited scheme for value for money. In fact the extent of its value is really only limited by how wide your taste in films is, and how much time you have.
I usually go twice a week - which means each film costs about £2. Cineworld no longer have a ban on outside food & drink, not that it stopped me before.
You can book online in advance (one film at a time) for free.
The "Black" card (which you get after a year of membership) gives you 25% off refreshments in the Cinema and removes the surcharge for 3D films.0 -
I go about 2 or 3 times a year to the Cinema, I generally use my Tesco Clubcard Vouchers to get a ticket for £4 - £5, which I don't think is that bad.
I would love to go more, but the nearest one to me is a good 15 miles away, and I don't drive. So that means an hour on the bus (but luckily I have a disabled bus pass) or half an hour on a train. As I go so little I don't begrudge myself the Cinema snacks.0 -

Ive got an Unlimited card too and I try to go twice a week too but some weeks due to work I only once or none at all.
Didn't know about the lifting of the ban on outside food.0 -

Odeon don't have online booking charges - they've figured they can save more by getting people to book online and having fewer (or at times no) staff at the box office.
I've never not taken food with me, although i like their nachos with cheese at the flicks so sometimes treat myself to those.
I don't think its any more expensive than a meal out, or indeed a takeaway.
Part of the experience of going to the cinema is usually other people are watching the film too - so if you don't like rustling / munching / drinking then perhaps its not the ideal trip out - that said I'm prob one of those annoying people crunching my nachos....sorryFeb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Thanks, it's useful to know.0 -
Last time I went cineworld it was £14 a ticket (Central London).
Cheapest cinema I know in London is £5 and film any day. It's a horrid & disgusting cinema though. Floor often feels sticky & it's smelly too.0
